"DEI Hire" just sounds like the new N word. She's more qualified than a lot of people on the hill and certainly more than her opponent and his VP combined, but she's still somehow just a "DEI Hire."

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 57 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

I think using DEI as a racist dogwhistle like they did CRT is really going to backfire on them. Anyone who spells out the acronym will get a sense that the Democratic candidate(s) receiving this slander is for diversity, equity and inclusion. So Team Trump is for uniformity, inequity and exclusion? Kinda says the quiet part out a bit too loud.

[–] Arbiter@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

Man, I wish they would stop slandering cathode ray tubes.

[–] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Diversity has become a scare word for genuinely non-racist (just dumb) conservatives, they think they didn't get that promotion because the company needs a black manager for DEI reasons even if there's a better white dude for the job. The racists make it person: "They didn't hire YOU, who is special and amazing and such a good worker bee, and instead hired that other guy JUST because he's black!" They don't register it as racial, but it opens them up to radicalization into the racist fold because now they start to develope that "you don't deserve your position because reverse racism" slant to all their views.

My convicted-felon, day-drinking alcoholic brother thinks that "Mexicans" (all brown people) are a plague that's ruining his home in California because they started him on the "DEI is reverse racism, and that's why you didn't get that job!" Crap via whatever indoctrination he stated with.

"DEI Hire"

It's #MAGA for the N word.
It's their loudest dogwhistle.

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Dog whistles technically aren't quiet, they are out of the audible frequency for humans, but dogs can perceive them because their hearing range goes beyond the 20k Hz range that is the upper limit for human ears. Sort of like how we can feel the heat from infrared light we just can't see it, but point an infrared camera at the light source and it's bright.

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

This guy whistle dogs.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

They even both have hard Rs

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Billionaires are in the 1%, truly a minority of the global population.

Trump is a diversity hire.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He's a nepo baby, a DEI hire needs to face adversity from the system to get where they are, a nepo baby is put into power despite their incompetence.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

Perhaps he's a DEI hire AND a Nepo baby?

He's also more brain-dead than RFK's worm and his pants are filled with more piss and shit than a port-a-potty at a Beer 'n Bad Shrimp convention

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@kbin.run 4 points 3 months ago

I'm ok with the GOP looking bad, making gaff after gaff. This time in particular. And I would love to have the GOP become a functional governing party, that was inclusive of all citizens. Not holding my breath. But that saying, "A house that is divided against itself cannot stand." keeps coming to mind. If half of my home were rotting away, I sure would want to do something about that.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 38 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They’re only calling her a diversity hire in public, we all know what they’re saying in private.

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (5 children)

Was Clarence Thomas a "DEI Appointment"?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

He was the best justice that money could buy.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

No, he's just "one of the good ones" because he's on their side.

[–] dudinax@programming.dev 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Clarence Thomas's appointment was big "Fuck You" to the legacy of Thurgood Marshall

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer?

[–] baronvonj@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Bad to the robe.

[–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

I think that's certainly what Republicans were intending, and I think it's why Thomas appears very insecure.

[–] LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Yes and so was Harris. I mean, prior to selecting Harris, Biden literally said he wanted a woman of color as his VP. If harris picks a white man as a running mate, that will likely be a diversity hire as well (although hopefully she doesn't say she wants a white man as a running mate out loud so she at least has plausible deniability).

I'm not saying she's unqualified, her credentials are plenty good enough for the job and much better than Trump or Vance. Its also not necessarily a bad thing to intentionally pick a running mate with a different upbringing than you, so you get exposed to different world views. But it's not racist to say she's a diversity hire when Biden literally said as much.

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago (3 children)

He's not the best pick for VP, but the campaign posters would go down in history.

#HarriButt2024

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

He absolutely thrashes opponents in conversations so elegantly and politely with straight facts. I think he's the only regular administration official who even goes on Fox News because he can handle those assholes.

I'd proudly post the "HarriButt" bumber sticker, but unfortunately, too many shitty people are afraid of "gay", so I don't see that happening. I really hope he stays in public view and gets an elevated position that uses his skills more widely in a Harris administration though. He's fantastic.

[–] HamsterRage@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Why not? He's an amazing speaker and he comes across as extremely thoughtful and intelligent.

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Strategically, Kelly would garner more votes bc:

  1. Astronaut
  2. Wife shot in head
  3. Not gay (sorry, reality...not me!)

But wholeheartedly agree, I'd take Buttigieg over anyone, and if he's selected, it wouldn't adversely affect Dem's chances.

My biggest worry is that his history in South Bend runs the risk of bolstering the "she's a cop" narrative if Harris picks him.

[–] chakan2@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The problem is that's exactly the kind of rhetoric that the Trunp base wants to hear. The question is how racist are the independent voters. We are going to find out how many ignorant bigots COVID took out since 2016.

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

Come on boomer-remover! If there's one silver lining to the pandemic it was fascists refusing to protect themselves.

[–] mightyfoolish@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

The problem is that’s exactly the kind of rhetoric that the Trunp base wants to hear.

If it helps, Republicans reaching for these "low branches" are all they can do until she starts detailing her platform. They don't have much else to go for.

The question is how racist are the independent voters.

Same for independents as well, nothing really to look forward to or hate until more info is released. If she hasn't changed her views much since 2019, she'll already be more successful/popular than Biden.

We are going to find out how many ignorant bigots COVID took out since 2016.

Probably not enough to change the outcome of an election. If a whole bunch of old people died in Florida, Republicans would win anyways after they all moved there during Covid (if they moved from Ohio or another swing state that would make a huge difference in Ohio or other swing states).

You did just give me an idea. Let's take the populations of New York and San Fransisco and split them into conservative areas. They can move back after the election. I call this plan "How to elect any official."

Why is little piss baby Trump so afraid to debate a “DEI hire”?

Sharp brain wielding Kamala will expose and DESTROY Dotard Trump in a debate.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Why is little piss baby Trump so afraid to debate a “DEI hire”?

Cuz he's terrified of her

Plus, he has to make sure he says DEI instead of the n-word, which probably is a lot of effort.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Because he has no platform aside from fear and hate.

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Matt Gaetz is a DUI hire. Just say'in.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Shhhh… let them shoot themselves in the dick.

[–] rickdg@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Sir, you’re supposed to pretend that you’re not racist.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

He IS that polite, which I appreciate, but he could make a stronger statement about it.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Pete is right to say so.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

But it’s right on brand.
