This is one of those moments, where I have been living with ad blockers and network filters for over a decade, where I asked myself "the fuck are they talking about" before I realized.

Good thing you put the "tech related" qualifier on there. He probably should have stayed in that lane.

It is still possible to run your own server and set up your own website. Nobody is stopping anybody from doing that. That's literally what all the Fediverse admins are doing. We just all got lazy and decided to congregate around pre built platforms.
MySpace had the best of both worlds. A robust social media platform with tons of customization options, including even altering the css and html of your personal page.

Edit: also, this article is like, 12 years old.

I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman, but I don't think the gay marriage issue is alive right now. I'm not one of these guys who's looking to try to take people's families and rip them apart."

That's right, now is not convenient, but once the government purge and the fascist revolution begins, hey why not add it to the pile?

Windows also still runs software unchanged
from 20 or more years ago, while software on Linux has to be constantly updated to use new libraries and APIs, else it's considered "dead" and very soon will no longer run or even compile in its current form.

It has a lot of baggage that Linux doesn't need to worry about. Up until Vista, you could even still natively run 16 bit DOS software from the 80s.

I think at this point you're only going to find 1080p in a thrift store. If that's fine with you, you can probably get one for $20-30.
