So I tied a Tamagotchi to my belt, which was the style at the time

!oldmanyellsatcloud@dubvee.org

Are you a tech enthusiast who also kind-of hates current tech trends? This community is a place to share your gripes with modern technologies, tech-bro culture, "AI the everything", etc.

Tech-rant memes, articles, or just rant/horror stories: all are welcome.

Related Communities

Note: The community is about a year old. It was originally going to be a personal blog, but I never found the time to write-up my tech hate, so it kind of languished. So now I'm re-branding it as a place for anyone to dump hate for current tech trends (in any format) since I didn't see any other community for that purpose (that wasn't for a specific trend - e.g. AI).

!bangladesh@lemmy.world

I requested the community with this message:

I want to create a space for r/Bangladesh. The government in the country has shut down the internet and I want to make decentralized options more accessible for them. I plan to see if the moderators want to join here too. If a good community forms, I am happy to hand off the moderator role.

I am not in Bangladesh, and I can't read Bengali without translation tools. I'll love to have other people helping with content and moderation. If you are interested, let me know.

It is difficult to self host in Bangladesh but my hope is that this community will end up creating an instance there. After this community is running, I will reach out to people on other websites.

@Safipok@lemmy.ml if you are still around, I'd be pleased to add you as a moderator

Would you rather, its in the name. Needed to make one not on Lemmy.world and here it is.

And also would you rather have a sentient toilet that gets off when you poop in it or is utterly revolted by it?

Searching Lemmyverse is good for finding communities. !trendingcommunities@feddit.nl is also a nice tool for finding new places.

I posted this on the other site but I thought I'd copy over here too, lots of good communities around to subscribe to if you want a more casual/fun frontpage that isn't just tech news, elon musk, or politics.

note: all of these communities have posts. If they appear empty, it simply means nobody on the instance you use has visited them before (or you might have blocked them and forgot, I've done it before, lol)! I will try to keep this thread updated over time.

Note: if you wish to auto-subscribe to all of the communities below, I have a post in the comments that describes how to do so.

My rough criterion was:

  • Of interest to me or a wide audience
  • Has a decent amount of activity
  • Casual / fun / interesting / cool / funny / chatty communities.
  • 0 negativity/negative vibes, news, politics, overload of tech or niche tech news/info, etc.

Directory

  • Conversation Communities - for chatty places
    • "ask" based
    • Casual chat / Misc
  • Hobbies, Creative, Passions
    • Misc
    • Artwork
    • Cooking, food, drinks
    • Gardening / Plants
    • Keyboard enthusiasts

Music

Lots of music communities on Lemmy. Search Lemmyverse for genres of interest for more, this definitely isn't exhaustive.

Note that music communities generally have low comment counts, from my experience.

There's also:

These communities have been removed from the list for not maintaining activity.

!linux@programming.dev

As usual with the fediverse, choice is key.

There were quite a few complaints on !fediverse@lemmy.world about !linux@lemmy.ml not having any real alternative (https://reddthat.com/post/20166234), so let's see if we can revive the programming.dev one.

And if it fails, at least we tried.

Join us at the front gate to welcome new users into Lemmy, and to the Fediverse as a whole!

Links:

I'm hoping this community will encourage new people to do things like the following:

  • share what you're looking for, or what you want to do. We'll help you find it
  • Ask questions! The Fediverse is new to most people. If you're unsure about something, others are unsure as well.
  • Just smile and wave, maybe someone will wave back πŸ‘‹

I searched around for a bit and didn't see a community for this purpose, so I made this one.

If you have suggestions, have resources for the new users, or want to help moderate, let me know!
