Want to upgrade your F-91W? The open-source Sensor Watch is a board-swap that uses the same display, housing, and wrist-strap but lets you program your own functionality.

Woah, that's cool.

I lost my Casio watch somewhere in my closet about 3 years ago (I am very lazy).

I still hear it beep every hour.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

place a marker halfway in your closet. every hour stand at the marker and see if the beep is to your left or right. Should be able to find it in <8 attempts.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Dude is lazy and you want him to stand up 8 times in a day?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the only alternative is to piss off your S.O. by asking if they've seen it and then they'll find it instantly

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Or your dad, if you're my kids.

[–] Copythis@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You guys are hilarious! There's no way I'm going to search for it. That watch is going to find me before I find it.

[–] FlightyPenguin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

And if it beeps on the same side no matter which way you're facing, you might be wearing it.

Beautifully timed

Rolex has spent the last 50 years trying to rebrand itself as a luxury watch brand but they started out as sport watches. Essentially what this Casio watch is.

The people that designed Rolex watches wanted them to be basically indestructible. They're wildly over-engineered. They have shockmounts so you can drop them without breaking the balance staff and most are waterproof.

[–] nBodyProblem@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

That’s because Swiss precision is meaningless when a $1 chip can keep time better than a $6k mechanical watch. The only way they can survive is by selling the luxury angle.

My wife is in the army. This is the watch that soldiers wear; it has every function you need, and absolutely none that you don't, and it's cheap as shit so you can afford it on your crappy military pay. It will not give a flying fuck what kind of abuse you put it through, and in a pinch it will probably stop a bullet.

https://www.watchesofespionage.com/blogs/woe-dispatch/casio-f-91w-the-preferred-watch-of-terrorists

I got this watch because it's the preferred watch of terrorists. I like how light it is but the strap did break after not taking it off for a year. I think the oils in my wrist broke it down.

I love Casio watches; I’ve got about a hundred of them.

The F91W is most notable for being the cheapest, brand name watch you can buy just about anywhere. Even the poorest dirt farmer can afford to own one. And it has all of the features most people need.

That said, it’s not the best option for us westerners. They are very tiny watches, more suited to a child’s wrist than a grown man. A better option is a Casio G-Shock GW-M5610U. It’s solar powered with atomic timekeeping, meaning it never runs out of power and always has the correct time.

Plus, it’s way more durable compared to an F91W. If I could buy a watch for everyone on the planet, it’d be the 5610.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nice try, but I could buy ten F91Ws for one 5610. Wouldn't you rather have two watches on each limb AND two watches on your dick than one slightly fancier watch?

The real flex

As a grown man with child size wrists good I need more options. Most watches I looked at are huge on me. I got a Seiko 5 which fits well though.

[–] skulkingaround@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

As another man in the tiny wrist club, it's truly heartbreaking to find out that watch that looks so good in pictures looks absurd when you put it on yourself. I really wanted a speedmaster but at least with the metal strap, it's just too big.

F91W is a truly legendary watch though. It's what I use 90% of the time although swapping the factory rubber wrist strap with a NATO strap is a worthwhile upgrade. The clasp on the factory strap really likes to break.

I also actually have a Seiko 5 too, very solid budget friendly automatics. Really big modding community too if you want to get into customization.

[–] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yep, some people really need the smaller size. Personally, I’ve got an 8 inch wrist, and anything smaller than 42mm feels tiny on my wrist. I couldn’t physically wear a F91W as the standard strap is just too short to even fit.

Get what works. Fuck all those dick measuring contests.

Function over form!

[–] Gonroz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I have the calculator watch one and absolutely love it. The reaction people have when they notice is priceless.

[–] InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I like to imagine the rev/fwd buttons on this one is for the time travel function.

[–] cdf12345@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Reverse Time / Teleport Forward

Seems pretty close to me!

[–] Gonroz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

This one looks dope and definitely fancier than mine. I have the ca53w-1

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you use the calculator often?

[–] Gonroz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I do use it often actually. I find it a little bit more convenient than taking my phone out and opening the calculator app. But I also probably just do it partly for the novelty

[–] radix@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

How did OP drop the watch if they never take that bad boy off?

[–] frezik@midwest.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We're still one of those planets that think digital watches are a neat idea.

[–] al177@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lunchtime doubly so

[–] yuri@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Casio has a line of ladies watches with floral borders, I wear one as a man and get lots of compliments.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Ooh - do they have one in Hawaiian print?

Edit: Searching for "Casio Hawaiian Print" was fun.

[–] Ser_Salty@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

That shirt goes hard, ngl

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Dammit why do I love this.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The amount of compliments I also got from the cheapest watch at a grocery store (also Casio)... I've seen listings for some really expensive ones with the same shape and general appearance but different colors and maybe features. Does anyone know what's up with those?

[–] yuri@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Casio does variants of the same model with all stainless steel cases/bands for a bit more, but it’s usually the japan exclusive colorways that see prices north of $70 or so. Casios are usually pretty affordable!

[–] Rodeo@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 year ago

$70 isn't even expensive. Are people really fawning over sub-$100 watches?
