The White House lawn was lined with around 100 mug shots of alleged illegal immigrants who have been arrested and the crimes they allegedly committed, as Donald Trump tries to draw attention to his actions during the first 100 days of his second term.

The names and exact locations of the individuals are not on the posters, which line "Pebble Beach," where television crews typically do live shots in front of the White House—among their alleged crimes are sexual offenses and murder.

Citizens commit crimes at a higher rate than immigrants. Both legal and illegal.

https://www.migrationpolicy.org/content/immigrants-and-crime

It's worth noting that there used to be multiple .gov sites hosting information about this, but they are all dead links now.

Fuck this administration and anyone who thinks what's happening is remotely ok.

Yeah, but he won't be starting with those white church goers...

They come pretty late in the poem

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 12 points 3 days ago

how many of these crimes is 47 himself personally guilty of?

[–] LovingHippieCat@lemmy.world 39 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yes because Mugshots are done in cars, outside, in hallways, and only occasionally with a flat white background. We all know this.

Seriously though, only some of these are actual mugshots, often they seem to just be pictures of accused people with no fucking names attached so there is no way to fact check it.

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

you're hung up on the word "mugshots" while i'm sitting over here wondering how hard they must have tried first to have heads on pikes and got denied.

[–] notfromhere@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Damn that is an astute observation.

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

i say this without sarcasm: it's not hard if you're not american.

the last time i was in the US, it amazed me how ubiquitous Fox News is everywhere. like, in your cafes, in your bars, in your casinos - it's fucking everywhere. the rest of us realized how horrible they were a long, long time ago.

that said, i know that a good solid majority of Americans are fully against what's going on. so i'm not knocking you insomuch as just pointing out that the rest of the world isn't being glazed constantly.

Where did you go, Arkansas?

Or Utah. I'd say Idaho but they've probably got OAN and NewsMax running 24/7.

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

I know another criminal mug show they should display there.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 34 points 3 days ago

*accused immigrants. *innocent immigrants.

remember: they are innocent until due process happens.

fun fact: the white house is ignoring said process because they are fascist.

Lol, this is some grade-A country Karen bullshit. I don't think I have ever seen a bigger little bitch baby than Trump. I've seen some big ol'little bitch babies in my day but, damn son.

Mugshots imply they were booked and charged. When’s the trial?

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Trump: outright threatens to become a dictator, praises Hitler, steals and sells classified documents
News headlines: Allegedly a tiny bit naughty

Trump: Posts random photos of possible kidnapping victims and labels them with heinous crimes sans-trial
News headlines: ILLEGALS

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

IKR?

This "liberal media" of ours is exasperating.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Trump is scared about his polls on immigration and he likely wants whitehouse protesters to protest with this in the background.

A lack of due process has broken through, and he’s freaking out.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I suspect that as Nate Silver says, Trump is doing this sort of thing because he wants to fight about immigration rather than his other, less popular policies - he thinks he has the public support to win on immigration.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah, he might be trying to do that.

He might also be trying to turn his polling on immigration around. All this shady deportation stuff has pushed him underwater on immigration. Americans were majority positive when it was all about slowing crossings, but they’re not down with deporting documented people, deporting people without judicial review, accusing people of gang crimes because they’re brown and have tattoos, or throwing people into gulags.

Fuck, you got me there.

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 days ago

If I go to a prominent government building, and there's posters of people on row, my first thought would be that these are either candidates or the freshly elected officials.

[looks closer and squints]

Ah, being a foreigner I don't know much about the details of American politics, but these must be the "Senate", right? A drug lord here, a kiddy fiddler there.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

Cheap, angry teenager, toddler antics ... all coming from someone who is demanding respect.

I expect to see cheap theatrics like this from my deranged neighbourhood far right racist promoter

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 8 points 3 days ago

Ooo now do the same but with people in the government!!

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Wow, that's tacky as shit. Trump has debased the office of POTUS more than anyone could imagine.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Don't like that the news articles are accepting the framing of "illegal immigrants" in the headline when the names etc are unknown. Sure thats what the white house says they are, but they are not trustworthy

[–] Tikitimebomb@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Could the opposite lawns be posted with pics of the 10:1 or more ratio of authority and clergy that commit the same crimes?

[–] nimble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago
[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

100 mugshots and how many total were deported? Is it also 100?

I don't agree that the things shown on these signs should lead to deportations without due process.

But even if I did think that, then this would only make sense if Trump's administration had deported around 100 people. The latest number I saw was around 140K. About 1400 per mug shot here.

This is like if you had 1400 students in your high school senior class, and they decided not to give anybody a diploma. And the evidence they showed was that one person out of 1400 had failed.
