I usually avoid them because of the mark-up, but yesterday I was in the mood for a soda and didn't feel like going into a store and interacting with the cashier, so I bought one out of a vending machine. I enjoyed it. What about you? When was the last time you used a vending machine, and what did you buy?

Hello everyone,

I left a western European country (think sunset at 16:30 in December) for a southern European country. I'm visiting my family for the holidays, and it just feels very strange to be back here.

I now live in a city, and the contrast with the urban sprawl in my previous country is almost jarring. Car dependency is also quite high, while I mostly walk around where I live now.

For people who experienced similar situations, did you find any way to deal with it? I'm only here for a few weeks, so it's fine, but I guess I just wanted to see if someone has any tip.

It also probably means I made a good decision to move where I live now.

I just want to vent a bit - I started seeing someone a few weeks ago. Old fling that I ran into through some friends that got rekindled, and I was excited that it seemed like more than just casual hookups this time. But there were some yellow flags I ignored that turned out to be red flags, and now I'm feeling frustrated and hurt.

Dude for real dropped the line that men are more "capable" and "logical" on me. That gender studies are "indoctrination." I told him we should probably stop seeing each other if that's really what he thinks. It wouldn't be logical for me to keep seeing someone that thinks lesser of me, now, would it?

I'm grateful to have some guy friends that I turned to after I left, cuz I wanted to go into "fuck all men" mode, but I know it's not true or helpful. Just like there are women out there that have internalized misogyny, there's feminist men, enbies, etc. We're all just people and we're not monoliths beholden to differences in biology. This is just sexist, manosphere bullshit in particular

Anyway. I'm still feeling angry and wanted to put it out there for some support and solidarity. Anyone have a recent win they'd like to share or something?

So im a crane technician, glorified diesel mechanic in Australia.

And i have flown arouns the country to get to a shitty little place called whyalla. Took me 4 flights to get here darwin to alice, alice to Melbourne, Melbourne to Adelaide. Missed my connection. Then the next day Adelaide to whyalla.

I have no idea whays the cause of the fault on the crane and currently no real idea on my next steps. But its 2000 and im in some shit restaurant at my accommodation and ive been here half an hour trying to get a feed so i can go to bed and do another 13 houra tomorrow. Because i want to go home Monday.

I've been working in construction for the past 11 years at this point with a few years before that in a part time role. I'm more than happy to lend whatever knowledge or insights I may have about work, life, or whatever.

I will be checking in sporadically to see if there are questions.

I cannot understand if this is due to AI, corporate greed, propaganda, or a mixture of all of the above.

I love exploring new and creative content. It brings me such great joy to learn new things.

Recently I've felt that I've been backed into a corner on every platform/service that I use and can't get out of getting the same spoon-fed content they think I'll like rather than allowing me to actually discover something fun and new.

Or am I just the paragon saint of puppy love?

Seriously though, do y'all have a crush on each of your friends?

Perhaps I'm being difficult, but I'm not deriving pleasure from documentaries the way I used to. I realize I'm speaking in generalities, please humor me.

I find the presentation of most modern docs so hyperdramatic and forced, it detracts from the underlying subject matter.

I would prefer if documentaries tried their best to collect and present information in a fascinating way, and present it as reasonably neutral as possible, with some leeway for the author's voice. I don't appreciate it when the superficial presentation constantly tries to cue me emotionally.

I really don't understand why I have to have violen symphony music playing like it's the eve of world war 3, and all the nukes are about to be launched, when I'm watching a documentary about snail parasites or particle collider research.

Even though it's different auditorially, to me it's the same principle as applying a laugh track to a comedy show. I don't need it suggested to me when something is funny, and I don't need to be cued by string orchestra music that something is serious or worrisome. Please trust me to make these judgments on my own!

I think all trends ebb and flow but this one seems to have taken root and it's doesn't seem to be letting up.

I wonder if other people feel this way, or if I'm just watching the wrong things?

Which one is it for you?

I've become curious about how many spelunkers are out there. One of the hobbies of me and my friends that very few people know about is cave exploration, or spelunking as it's called in the United States. It's a hobby that traces itself to my grandfather; he had a job post-WWII where he would venture into caves because there was a fear samurai were hiding in caves all across the Pacific. This turned into cave exploration skills which he passed onto my friends (less so me, I can "technically" do it for the visual enjoyment and do certain aspects better but consider it a safety red flag). I usually sit by as "reinforcements" outside a cave even though I do sometimes fancy some visuals.

There are a number of caves where we are, as it's one of the most erosion-rich regions in the world if not the most. Sometimes my friends discover things, either they take pictures or set them up for analysis. The activity can be so fascinating, caves are the opposite of open books and it's fun to "leave a mark" as you go, if that makes sense; it's like playing a video game in real life. Everyone talks about urban exploration, which is less insightful/legal and always involves places that were once sprawling anyways. Nobody talks about spelunking.

Any of you spelunkers out there? What caves have you been to? What's the most you've ever done, and what things have you discovered or brought back? And what did your experience involve?
