Did you watch mad max 1? No way that's better then thunderdome. It barely made any narrative sense.

Or is something in thunderdome specifically irritating you? The naked saxophone blind guy?

Every computer should have a hard cutoff power switch, when thrown it cuts all physical electricity.

Off means off.

The current trend of soft power buttons, parasitic loads to service impi, or management engines wol, etc is just bad practice and removes agency from the user.

Who hasn't wanted to turn off a laptop to put it in a bag only for the shutdown to trigger an update that takes 10m whole your running late, so the laptop overheats. Or worse, the laptop turns on while in the bag!

The fact windows has a poor ability to apply updates live or In a a/b fashion is no excuse for soft poweroff buttons. Sure it's nice to flush file system write through caches, but Ive been burned by fake power off far more then incomplete file writes.

Ok... I'll justify it by the iconic moments i still remember

  • Mad Max 3: Thunderdome
    • Two men enter - one man leaves
    • Break a deal - spin the wheel
    • Ragady man has LOTS of guns hidden in his EDC
  • Mad Max 4 : Fury Road
    • Witness me!
    • Guitar Guy
  • Mad Max 2 : The Road Warrior
    • It was all a sand trick! Max threw his life away for sand!!
    • The whole story was told through the eyes of murder boomerang kid in his old age!
  • Mad Max 5 : Furiousia
    • The nipple clamps getting pulled out of thor was wild
  • Mad Max 1
    • So terrible, so bad, how did 2 get funded?

IPv6 addresses and letsencrypt

If your addresses are globally unique, you don't have to care about internal or external

  • Mad Max 3 :Thunderdome
  • Mad Max 4 : Fury road
  • Mad Max 2 : The Road Warrior
  • Mad Max: Video Game 2015 - (Not a movie, but great immersive world building)
  • Mad Max 5 : Furiousia
  • Mad Max 1

It's a good film, the opening CGI sound stage was disappointing and probably turned off some reviewers, but ignore that and it's a fine member of the franchise. Like its totally a good movie to watch in the theater and bring a date with, fun times, no real complaints. It's only down in the list because the other entries were SO ICONIC!

It's absolutely FOSS. It is not, however federated. But that is not a requirement to be free and open source software

Think of it like this, Linux is free and open source software, even if I don't give you a shell on my computer.

You can use the code, however you want, in any project you want.

Setting up a Synology server, I made the mistake of just buying a UPS that had a USB plug on the back thinking oh this is a solved problem, it must just work. No no far from it.

So the UPS I mistakenly purchased is not compatible with Synology. SRV1KI-E wants to run this weird program called PowerChute.

Anyone have success marrying this into the Synology ecosystem?

It also has a RS 232 serial port, I wonder if there's an off-the-shelf device that would speak serial but output power state via the network or USB.

I've met some people from Myanmar, communicating with them is difficult. They speak Tai Yai. Especially because I'm not aware of any machine translation option, so a third party has to get involved.

I don't believe Google translate, Microsoft translate, any others I was looking at, have a Tai Yai feature.

Are there any options for translation without involving a human?

Built out my ploopy mouse today, it's been sitting on my shelf for a while. I got the self-assembly kit, had to solder on one through hole component.

So far I'm enjoying the mouse, the right mouse button is a little sticky, but I'm sure with a little readjustment it'll fall into place.

Every part of this mouse is open source, the hardware files, the PCB, the schematic, the firmware which is QMK. There's a lot to love here.

I've been playing some video games, and so far I enjoy the mouse quite a bit.

If I do have one complaint it would be the central scroll wheel doesn't have a detent, but that might just take some getting used to

I would love to see a kinesis style pinch mouse like the DXT2.

@pronk@mastodon.social @PKL@mastodon.social Great device, thank you for making it open source.

Note: I ordered their USB cables, just for solidarity, and assuming they found a cable that was very effective for a mouse, the cables I received were very strong, too stiff really to be used for a mouse cable. Luckily I had some very flexible braided USB cables already. So if you're going to order from them do not order the USB cable

Nice thoughtful video on the relative effectiveness of flames vs bugs in the new patch.

The most recent experience you had been putting off, but for whatever reason you tried. How did it go? Do you regret purring it off for so long?

A banger video about applying sintered traces to 3d printed models... BUT more interesting then that is the use of ChatGPT to "exfiltrate" unpublished formulas for the cooper plating solution.

In the video at 8:10 Ben goes through his exhaustive search of trying to make a solution that would work, and details that all the labs keep it more or less a secret, but the application of a LLM revealed the difficult to find steps/formula needed.

Obviously ChatGPT gobbled this up somewhere... just published on the internet but Ben didn't find it? Or did ChatGPT get trained on internal/corporate documents and the LLM is actually democratizing this information?

As a child I grew up on a 12 hour clock.

18-20 I had to learn 24 hour clock and use it all the time (heh).

Now as an adult I try to stay 24h but I still mentally swap 24h to 12h in my head.

So I look at the clock see 13:00 and think ok it's 1:00pm.

So far, so good.... When on a treadmill/bike watching the timer go up, I sometimes have mild confusion.

I'm doing 15:00 on this machine, ok the timer says 13:00... I have 4 minutes left. I realize my quick math and time recognition frameworks are colliding. The 13:00 gets quick swapped to a 1, and I then I do 5-1.. I've noticed this on multiple days, even though I know it's wrong.

Not sure of the right term for this, anyone else have this kind of coding confusion?

If you've got a long elevator ride part of your daily life, what do you do with your time in the elevator?

I've got a 90s elevator ride at my office, and I go up and down all the time, no signal no Wi-Fi..

Had a small discussion with a good beehaw community member in one community, it got contentious but otherwise civil, and they have now taken to taking that discussion out in response to comments I've made in other posts and communities.

I would consider this a form of harassment, following me around Lemmy and having a argument seems to hurt the overall discussion in other posts and communities with anger and abuse.

How do I get help in this matter?

New Vegas Reloaded is officially available for download via Discord.

There are many other versions floating around the interwebs but it's HIGHLY recommended you use the latest nightly build, downloaded from the TES Reloaded Discord.

I'll point out, this site is hosted on GitHub, which distributes builds, and has build infrastructure....

Why are builds going through discord???!?! Insane
