I'm not American and have only brief idea of how US elections work, but.. damn this gets more and more ridiculous every day. I'm not saying Trump is better or anything, that dude is batshit crazy egomaniac, but... But... you're saying there are no other options like if there was only one available candidate from the whole blue party? Or is it impossible (or too late) to switch candidate now? I'm confused.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world -2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Biden can resign and hand it over to anyone else. He's decided he wants to stay in the race even though he clearly has some neurological issues.

[–] kurcatovium@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is it him who has to hand it over? Or is it possible for blue party to say "Hey, Joe, enough is enough" and substitute him for "health reasons"?

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago

Both can happen. The party loyalists didn't want to go against him for their own political careers. The GOP and Dems will push you out if you go against them.

I'd prefer the cryptkeeper surgeon who is at least trying, as opposed to the orange ghoul who is there to harvest your organs for some spare change.

The problem lies with the hospital which allowed those to be the only options to begin with.

I for one would prefer to have my appendix removed by a competent surgeon just over 35 y.o., but until hospital staff management gets their shit together, there isn't a whole lot one can do.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

this all the way. I have very vocally stated there needs to be an age ceiling on positions, there is age floors, there is zero reasons not to have an age ceiling.

[–] neidu2@feddit.nl 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

My current job has an age ceiling of 70 years, and I have very limited authority when it comes to deployment of nuclear tech.

[–] ProIsh@lemmy.world 98 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Voting Biden. Fuck all these takes. I'll never vote R again and I'll always vote. You old bastards die mad at the world.

[–] Cagi@lemmy.ca 75 points 1 week ago (44 children)

Many of these folks are still going to hold their nose and vote for Biden. A lot of these takes are valid criticisms without necessarily meaning they aren't voting for him. Hating every candidate and voting for one anyway is a long standing tradition here in Canada.

I'm voting Biden, but I still hate both him and Trump, and I hate that he's refusing to drop out even though every D voter in the country is begging him to drop out.

The only reason I'm voting for him is because I want to stave off fascism for another 4 years.

If my choice was between that and the doctor who said "I've got this handgun, it's the best handgun, nobody kills more patients than me"...

[–] FiniteBanjo@lemmy.today 31 points 1 week ago

Dr. Trump: "To be completely honest with you, I'm really lucky to have this operation. The board was about to submit judgement with serious repercussions to my personal life, but I managed to get in here just in time to dodge all responsibility. Anyways, I don't actually believe in medicine so I'm gonna let my Office of Management and Budget handle the situation from here."

Russ Vought: "First of all, every nurse is fired. The Anesthesiologist, too."

At this point i feels like it's all republican trying to do a psyop telling people not to vote.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 29 points 1 week ago (9 children)

Why can't we just express our disgust with the situation we're in without being called a psyop? I'm going to vote for Biden. I'm still pissed that this is where we're at. People were saying he was too old in the primaries before the last election and the Dems still shoved him down our throats and they're going to do it again. It's fucking bullshit. At the very least we need a candidate that's young enough that they're going to have to live with the consequences of their decsisions

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It doesn't matter if you literally preface every comment you make with "I AM VOTING BLUE NO MATTER WHO" with these people, every criticism is a psyop to get people to not vote.

You'd think having a candidate that polls like shit would be what makes people not vote for him. But no, it's actually the fault of the people pointing out he is a bad candidate and that perhaps we should run someone who doesn't repeatedly shout that "we beat Medicare" in the middle of a fucking debate.

The Democratic establishment fucking loves Trump, the specter of him is a permanent fundraiser and no matter who they trot out or how weak a candidate they are they don't have to change anything, because the alternative is literally fascism.

Or maybe we are just panicking at the person we can literally tell is unliked by other voters when even the people who will begrudgingly hold our nose at the vote are starting to get disgusted by the smell.

Seriously how hard is it to to not pretend people aren't struggling swallowing it down and the people ringing alarm bells are just that and not some special person trying to influence others but just don't want to hit the iceberg because it seemed like it would cost less fuel to just try ramming it and hoping we get lucky.

Fuck me. This is gonna be one of those parts of textbooks where it says infighting led to the party not moving fast enough to face the threat and whichever side makes it out the other side scapegoats the other as being the reason it got so bad.

Depends... is your other option not a doctor at all, and he hates you, and has openly stated that he hopes you die in the procedure? Those are you current two choices, America. Go with the sleepy one.

Pretty sure the other doctor would straight up kill me. Hmmm tough choice.

[–] IzzyScissor@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The other guy is actively googling how much different organs sell for on the black market.

Right? If the other doctor brought in a bunch of fishermen and a stockbroker, and a radio host, and a mime to help with the surgery and said "I saw this on TV once and I am an expert" then started up a chainsaw....I'd worry a little and take the other guy.

What a shame that no one can convince either of these doctors to step down for a younger, more capable doctor. Guess we'll just die.

Like, vote Biden, but also encourage the Democrats to put up somebody who has more going for them than "I'm not Trump". And if they actually do, vote for the new Democrat candidate instead. And while we're fantasizing, everybody should get free ice cream.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

So let’s go with the convicted felon doctor who only saves the patients who donate millions of dollars to him. The hospital fired him but he refused to leave his office.

Edit: also he’s 78 and talks about Hannibal Lecter a lot.

Sure... but if we're talking about the presidency, it's more like we're choosing a Dean of Medicine, rather than the surgeon who's going to be doing the operation.

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer not to have to deal with an 81 year old Dean who had some good days and some really bad ones. But, ultimately, the Dean of Medicine's most important job is hiring good doctors and then delegating to them. It's a rare occasion when you know ahead of time who the Dean's team will be... but in this case we've seen both options as Dean, and we know that only one of the two is planning to hire Dr. Nick Riviera and Zoidberg.

[–] erp@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago

I'm your surgeon now... and I'm tired of pretending I give a rat's ass about you, plebian.

Gotta love all these anti-Biden straw man posts where we overlook the reality of a thing and substitute in some random bullshit that makes our point for us.

It’s so fun to suspend reality in order to manufacture outrage for others.

I didn’t even have to look to know who posted this, too. It’s like a fulltime job.

Let’s compare that to “Dr. Trump” who would tell you people say he’s the best doctor, the best surgeon, the other doctor is a stupid poopy head who can’t golf, then no-show for your lifesaving operation and say only suckers and losers get cancer. But he’d still take your money.

These non-voter apologists are just Trumpers in donkey clothing.

Notice they always have to neg him in a vacuum, because once he is juxtaposed to Trump, he looks like the best parts of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams put together.

They will say or do anything to suppress the vote.

Great, Biden's not perfect, he is also a million fucking percent better than the alternative.

The Democrats are digging their own electoral grave. It's okay to preach about voting Biden on Lemmy, but it won't count for anything when masses of real world voters decline to vote for him on account of the constant self-harming of the dems.

A half decent candidate would tank Trump.

So much “but trump worst!!” in this thread, oof. Vote for the Biden administration if that’s your only choice, fine. But stop pretending that Biden himself is voteworthy - he’s not, and is hardly capable of functioning normally for 6 hours out of the day at this point. Anyone paying attention for the past year who is engaging in honest good faith, should be able to attest to that.

It would be much better for Biden to step down while there’s still time, if you’re really so terrified of Trump and want to ensure a Republican defeat come November. Those who are pushing for Biden himself to stay in are the real threat to democracy.

Come on Dems, how many times do you have to be taught the lesson of Feinstein and RBG?! For that matter, why are you so insistent on politicians literally working into the grave? It’s a grotesque level of elder abuse, what’s being done to Biden right now. You all should be ashamed.

How about a criminal grifter doctor that says he doesn't care about you, he just wants your money?

Your other option is a equally old man, hopped up on Sudafed, who lost his hospital privileges just 4 years ago because his mortality rate was insanely high, and no one would give him malpractice insurance, he had his medical license pulled in at least two states, and it's suspected he sold illegally harvested organs to a group of rich people who wanted to eat them. He's been legally found responsible for rape he's committed in civil court, and he was found guilty in criminal court of dozens of felonies related to him stealing hospital records when he lost his license and privileges and may or may not have sold them to the last people you'd ever want to have access to them. He's wearing a lobster bib and licks his lips as he says ''only I have the skill to save you, I don't even want to, but I will... '' He also forwards that everything is falling to ruin, and nothing is good now, and people are dying from surgeries left and right, and the people who died on his surgeries were fake deaths orcastrated by invisible foes only he can see or stop, so it was never his fault all those people died on his watch.
