Sometimes a bully just needs to be punched in the face.

We did not beat Hitler with positive thoughts.

Going high means you don't appreciate the urgency of the moment or the perfidy of the opponents.

The original quote was from the time of neoliberalism vs neoconservatism. You can certainly say those neoconservatives killed a million Iraqis and such but the point is the oligarchs still thought everything was just horse trading as usual. They'd play their little roles, and the status quo would say the same, aka they'd keep getting richer.

I sure hope this is the case. I got so very sick of the Tone Police popping up to tell everyone to stop talking about what the qons truly are and what they are doing, because....Civility (TM).

[–] elliot_crane@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, it turns out civility, like tolerance, is a social contract.

If you don’t give it, you sure as hell don’t deserve to get it.

Good riddance.

You don't fight fascism with tolerance. You fight fascism with the blunt force trauma it deserves.

When they go low, we go high, works on people who have a sense of dignity and are embarrassed by going low, in a crowd of undecided people.

By you avoiding going as low as them, and going high, you make them look even lower than they even are and embarrass them in front of everyone.

Going high does not work when they are a shame-free troll or surrounded by blind supporters. In that situation you get as low as them and tear them apart using their own troll weapons.

Community did a whole episode on this and who's the most schmidty.

Going high works if you actually go high. Doing the same thing and calling it high fails spectacularly.

When someone goes low, you sprawl on them.
