Well it was nice not knowing all of you

[–] morbidcactus@lemmy.ca 61 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There was, however, no clear increase in the risk of dementia associated with adult ADHD among those who received psychostimulant medication, and evidence of reverse causation was mild.

Actual journal here

I read the abstract and I can't understand if medicated ADHD adults don't show the increase the unmedicated ones did or if the medication did not make a difference (increase or decrease) compared with unmedicated adults.

So are medicated ADHDers statistically similar to unmedicated ADHDers or non ADHDers?

[–] morbidcactus@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago

My understanding is that medicated were not found to have the same increase in risk.

Yay, something else to look forward to besides joint replacement surgeries and more arthritis.

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (3 children)

What? Adhd affects joints?

[–] Plopp@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, we tend to smoke more of them.

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

3+ decades of dozens of prescriptions, none gave me a moment's peace.

On the other hand, my little vape has saved the day more times than I can count.

Not that I know of.... however, I'm a disabled veteran. Jumping out of planes definitely affects joints.

It’s pretty closely connected to EDS/Hypermobility. For many this will be mild though and go unnoticed.

POTS, MCAS (gi issues, allergies) in the ‘chronic triad’

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

yeah I looked up after and saw that there is an increased correlation between ADHD and hypermobility, I do have Hypermobility.

OP can you add "unmedicated ADHD" to the title to be a bit more (but still not totally) accurate

[–] xpinchx@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well fuck. I'd have been okay not knowing this.

Not surprised. My memory is already non existent. Lol. Maybe it’s the weed. Maybe it’s the adhd. Who knows.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 8 points 1 month ago

Blame it on my ADD, baby!SAIL!

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Weed actually ended up improving my memory when I started if only by having tons of practice FINDING THE FUCKDAMN LIGHTER!

[–] recklessengagement@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Man, I got enough to worry about, I don't need this

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

That's the beauty of dementia, one of the symptoms is that you usually don't realize you're experiencing it.

[–] gorgori@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

My grandma passed away from dementia a couple of years back. My mom has symptoms of ADHD. I am diagnosed with ADHD. The only person in the family to get diagnosed and actively treating with meds and stuff.

I wonder if knowledge and meds can stave of dementia.

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Every week there is an article linking dementia to this and that. I really can’t keep up with it anymore. At this point everything causes dementia.

I wouldn’t stress out of it. You might learn that stress is what causes dementia.

Actually yes there was a study showing that recently

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Fuckin super.

Bundle that with my history of head trauma and I'm basically guaranteed to get it at this point.

yay.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good news then. A history of head trauma means you're more likely to die early of a stroke from a random blood clot than to live long enough and experience dementia.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

woo...

Well might as well live a healthy active lifestyle from this point on hoping for the beat outcome

Gotta stack that deck in my favor Though basically everything before 25 could probably be best described as a path of self destruction, the future still isn't written. I've been on the up and up for 6 years now.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

It can be done and I believe you can do it.

Good luck!

[–] deuleb_biezelbob@programming.dev 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

at this point, just add prions to your diet

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

At this point it probably wouldn't change much lol

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What's the risk of looking like Dormammu?

[–] Raptor_007@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Well that’s just fucking great.

Nice like I dont forget enough things ready. I am going to be so much fun when the dementia hits

[–] jaxiiruff@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

One of my grandpas just died this year due to dementia related complications and it is a hell of a way to go. Really hope I dont end up with it getting as bad as I have seen it get before its too late to jump off a bridge.

[–] beefbot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Uggg I hate seeing things like this

ERASES RECENT MEMORY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE RETURNS TO MERE MEDIUM-WORRY STATE Oh that’s fun I’m so glad i learned.. uh, that ignorance is bliss ✨👍🤩🫠🧠

[–] Jeredin@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

[–] nothacking@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 weeks ago

What is this community about again?

[–] oberstoffensichtlich 1 points 1 month ago

Well my grandfather was an artist with a messy workshop and early onset Alheimer's.
