It is not possible for a conservative to be ashamed of bigotry. Bigotry is just who they are at their core.
Conservatives are proud of Trump's behavior. That's why they chose him as their representative. They could've choosen anyone in the nation to represent who they are, and they chose Trump to reflect their values. He is their reflection.
They might be embarrassed by his making a fool of himself but they support him because they agree with his positions.
It's why they mimic his behavior too.
Let them feel the burn of Trumps candidacy. They put him in this place and sowed the wind, let them reap the storm that makes them unelectable, too.

I don't think those quotes show Republicans reeling from anything. Those politicians know that Trump is a racist jerk, and they're okay with it. However, they are trying to get votes closer to the center, or by people who are closet racists but polite in public, so they wanted to mildly distance themselves.
They're always aghast at something, yet they still fall into line.
I don't get it? How are these remarks more embarrassing than so many other idiotic and false remarks he has made about his previous opponents, and on so many issues?
Seems to me nothing really changed, but maybe some people are beginning to get tired of it?
The real funny thing is how he constantly waves his hands in front of him to put them in a perspective where they look bigger.
They're different because more people are paying attention and he's finally on defense.
Biden couldn't get press that wasn't about infirmity. Trump only got passes. Things have changed.
