While money doesn't literally buy happiness, it does get rid of 95% of the things in life that cause unhappiness like paying for food, shelter, clothing and bills.
I’m not sure but spending my money on park rides definitely buys happiness for me, instead of having no money and just thinking how I can survive this month. Nearly everything nowadays is monetized, sure you could go for a bike ride and picnic, buy bike, buy food, still some money investment.
You mean being able to afford to live makes people... happy?
No, that can't be!
Directly, money can't. But lack of it sure as shit can cause a lot of misery.
Source: Used to be poor and miserable. Now I'm doing reasonably well, and I have time and mental capacity to focus on things that make me happy.
It's a case of diminishing returns, if you had 100k in your bank account you'd probably feel the freedom to indulge in modest luxury pretty much at whim - if you have 200M it just turns into a number-go-up situation.
I don't know, I figure I could make a pretty positive impact on the world with that kind of seed money. And that would certainly make me extra special happy!
Duh. The phrase is meant to mean an excess of money can't buy you happiness - having enough money to pay off what you need to, and being able to spend some on yourself without worrying where your next paycheck comes from will of course make you more happy!
I'm worried about my water possibly being shut off because I've been too sick to work, and I can't afford a doctor because I don't have health insurance because I'm self-employed. I'm self-employed because my health is too unstable to keep a "normal job". So I'm stressed which makes me get sick more often.
If I had money, I'd not have to worry about the basics of living and survival.
Money absolutely can buy happiness, if you're burdened by the stress of not having any.
So when are we going to stop treating this people like its their Divine Right to hold all these resources they'll never use?
No shit
💵 One happiness please.
I think I read on lemmy.ml that capitalists love UBI because it gives consumers money to spend, money that trickles up. Is there any truth to that and if so what is the conclusion there? I don't think society benefits from people suffering and starving... It's obvious that the people in power don't want to solve problems for everyone else, at least in the US.
The fear is that UBI will be used as an excuse to get rid of other social programs.
There's a fear that the capitalists will price gouge and take us right back to where we started.
Give me a billion dollars so I can find out.
