A VP candidate who has an extensive history of talking shit on video about the president he plans to serve. Excellent choice. /s

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Interestingly, Vance once called Trump “America’s Hitler.”

[–] OsaErisXero@kbin.run 46 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And he picked the side with America's Hitler, just to be clear about what he is.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

And promised to help with the next coup.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Hillbilly Shitbag is cool being America's Hermann Goering.

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Are we incorrectly assuming he used "Hitler" as pejorative? I certainly think it is a bad thing, but he is a Repub so he could have meant it as praise.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 month ago

Vance flipped from being a never-Trumper to being a Trump bootlicker when he figured out that he needed Trump's support to get into a position to fulfill his side of Theil's patronage.

Ohio, still managing to stay relevant in a bad way

[–] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago

My kids were right about Ohio being sus.

Once again reinforcing the negative connotation of “Ohio” in zoomer slang - e.g.:

Vance got dat skibidi Ohio rizz no cap on god

[–] frickineh@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I would pay a lot of money for someone to take a giant screen to Trump rallies and play clips of him talking shit.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Is there a go fund me for that?

[–] qantravon@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Vance is an opportunist who will say or do anything that he perceives will get him power and attention. So, he's just like Trump.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

As if Republicans care. Cults don't care about reality, and they won't care that it's obvious Vance stands for nothing.

[–] pastabatman@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Biden campaign should buy those clips and turn them into commercials.

I guess it isn't surprising a rapist chose a rape supporter.

[–] TTH4P@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago

He argued "two wrongs don't make a right". So gross.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sure, but he's said a number of things that I agree with, too:

“I’m a Never Trump guy,” Vance said in an interview with Charlie Rose in 2016. “I never liked him.” In February of that year, he reportedly privately wondered whether “Trump was America’s Hitler.”

A few months later, when the infamous Trump Access Hollywood tape came out, Vance warned, “Fellow Christians, everyone is watching us. When we apologize for this man, lord help us.” Throughout 2016 and 2017, Vance liked tweets critical of Trump, including that he committed “serial sexual assault” and was “one of USA’s most hated, villainous, douchey celebs.” In a set of since deleted tweets, Vance also criticized Trump’s response to the 2017 neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, writing, “There is no moral equivalence between the anti-racist protestors in Charlottesville and the killer (and his ilk).”

Christofascists before and after they realize the racists are their core voting block.

[–] Carrolade@lemmy.world 60 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good. Doubling down with a MAGA-MAGA ticket brings minimal value. Pretty sure he already had all the MAGAs anyway. Probably thinks he's sure to win now and doesn't need a boost anymore, but that remains to be seen.

Was actually a little worried about a Rubio pick. Similar to picking Pence last time, would've been throwing the non-MAGAs a small bone.

Almost feels like this is the first good news in weeks. Been a rough period.

[–] Hazzia@discuss.tchncs.de 36 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Good news until it's not. Doubt this guy would be as rational as Pence regarding overthrowing the vote (or in theoretical dystopian 2nd term, just deciding not to leave office)

Friendly reminder for everyone to get out and vote, and to drag all your registered friends along kicking and screaming ❤️

[–] kevindqc@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah he has said if he was in Pence's shoes, he would have accepted the fake electors, and says the election was stolen.

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

JD Vance went to Yale Law; of course he won’t choose something over power. I mean, Thomas and Alito both went there. Their alumni page on Wikipedia has a “Law and Government” section and includes several people we know went to Epstein Island. Anyone who comes out of Yale Law with a single principle got it somewhere else.

[–] Kingofthezyx@lemm.ee 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What a terrible choice. Like Vance brings basically nothing to the ticket. Actually gives me some hope.

[–] Ranvier@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 month ago

It does bring in some things for democrats, like really obvious attack ad ideas. Just play JD Vance's own comments about Trump, over and over again.

[–] bazus1@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'll bet Tim Scott loving all the decisions he's made in his life still.

[–] jws_shadotak@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

JD Vance, from Vance Refrigeration?

[–] MeekerThanBeaker@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Pretzilla@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Every day can be pretzel day

[–] ThePantser@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Why does he look like he should be wearing a Confederate uniform? Alternatively why does he look like he should be saying ugabooga?

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago
[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

He does have a bit of a Robert E. Lee thing going on, doesn't he?

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This is your friendly reminder that Donald Trump needed a new VP because he sent a rabid mob to hang his last one.

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 0 points 1 month ago

Not sure whether to denounce that mob, or wish them better luck next time.

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Welcome to Hillbilly Hell.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Called it. They wanted Ultra MAGA.

[–] cerement@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 month ago

so what was the final auction bid?

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Sounds like Trump isn't in charge around here 🤔

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

He was voted most likely to be hanged or assassinated by his own party his senior year. What a shoe in!

[–] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

On a bright side, “Hang JD Vance” still got a nice ring to it

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Enough people hate him this will hopefully sink their polls a bit.

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Excellent, I was worried he would pick someone compelling.
