He won't apologize for killing queer folks, what the fuck are they doing this for?

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 30 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Because if "you approve of assassination then the right starts to assume it's okay that you're next"

[–] DessertStorms@lemmy.blahaj.zone 50 points 1 month ago (1 children)

the right starts to assume it’s okay that you’re next

But they already do, so I second queermunist - why lick the boot already stomping on your neck?

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is it really bootlicking to say "back I don't think it was cool to assassinate Trump"?

I mean it's a lie but bootlicking?

[–] DessertStorms@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes. It is literally licking the boot stomping on their necks, the man has spent years actively acting against the community and contributing to a hostile environment that costs lives.

Pretending like being civil to a literal nazi is reasonable is bootlicking too.

Do you think the right is waiting for permission from us? Did you forget about the plot to kidnap Gretchen Witmer? Or when Paul Pelosi was assaulted with a hammer by a right wing home invader? Or, you know, when they tried to do a coup?

The right already believes it's okay.

This user has been posting shit like this a bunch. With headlines about how people are condemning the attempt. I wonder if there is an agenda behind it.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Jeffw? He's an active Lemmy poster and mod of many communities and always posts a ton of news content. Considering the recent events, it's not that surprising that a lot of news would be about groups paying lip service to wanting a fair political climate.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think they mean the person who made the comment.

[–] StoneGender@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 month ago

No I didn't.

[–] StoneGender@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

He has been posting headlines condemning the attempt specifically. just because he is a mod and active doesn't mean he can't be trying to garner sympathy for a fascist in power.

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Step 1. Fascist attempt to overthrow government campaigning on eradicating LGBT

Step 2. "Hey that's not good"

Step 3. "Hey stop pushing an agenda"

Bruh of course there's an agenda. It's called "wanting to not be eradicated"

I'm sorry that wanting what's best for the world offends you. Maybe you should consider moving to Israel, I hear they don't push agendas there.

Edit: unless you're talking about op, in which case sorry.

[–] StoneGender@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Yes I'm talking about op being a typical liberal saying that people should condemn violence towards Nazis in power

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

He won't apologize for killing queer folks

indeed. trump is completely removed from the suffering of others. everything has been performative so far. but the dems best be packing political heat in 72 hours or america is collectively cooked - but I have no faith that they will get their act together.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

For fucken once I agree. At best the response shouldve been silence, just keep thine mouth shut. If ya only have good to say then its better to say nothing at all.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Correct were annoyed it was an attempt

[–] retrospectology@lemmy.world 41 points 1 month ago

The smarter option here is to just say nothing. The right has been brutalizing people for decades, so much so that we've all probably forgotten half the insane shit they've done. Politicians don't have to outright condone ithe assassination attempt, but the right is a party of violence and isn't entitled to "decorum", they just treat it as a weakness.

Condeming the assassination attempt will earn them no good will with right-wingers, and won't stop their inevitable "retaliation".

[–] RageAgainstTheRich@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I'm just gonna repost my comment here from a different post because i think it fits this one even better:

Its horrific to watch left (wing) leaning politicians tripping over themselves wishing trump a speedy recovery and condemning violence in any way, and then see the comments filled with fascists literally telling them that they will kill them for "demonizing the right and causing this to happen.".

It is terrifying.

"We wish mr.trump a speedy recovery! Violence is never the answer! We hope he is okay! 🥺"

"You caused this by demonizing us and calling us fascists and nazis. We will come for you and kill you."

"Totally understandable! We are so sorry! 🙏🥺 Please continue your quest for genocide and the elimination of democracy! Again, so sorry! Forgive me! 🙏😭"

[–] fulcrummed@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I am a simple human, I see Letterkenny, I upvote. …and I suggest you let that one marinate.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

When I say they’re a threat to democracy…

This. This is what I mean. Political violence is never good. But trump’s rhetoric has made it… maybe justified?

Like his potential presidency is an existential threat to anyone who doesn’t agree with him; or they’re able to other-ize

LGBTQ, immigrants, racial minorities. Politically opposed, anyone with sufficient education to know he’s fucking stupid,

The courts have certainly been incapable of halting his rampant criminality. And that’s a problem.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

That sums up my feelings. The fascists will argue as if their opponents are the violent ones and so their violence is justified and necessary. They started the violent rhetoric. They’re the ones who want certain groups to not exist anymore however it has to happen.

They’re just going to “no you” and say whatever they think will get people to let them do violence

It’s wild though, because he’d happily put them up against the wall. And he may even get to, depending on November.

[–] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Stop showing these folks human decency and calling them your colleagues. They will not do the same for you, and are only okay with their in group having rights and not being harmed. It is long overdue Trump cultists to sit in the environment they created. You can not earn any good will with the crowd that think JFK was going to come back to life.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 12 points 1 month ago

this is going to become the new “but do you condemn Hamas” isn’t it.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just this once I kind of wish a politican would tell him you eat shit. It won't happen, and it really shouldn't happen lest we be like the people we hate, but man, at least some GOP would have said it. It feels unfair they're allowed to express their sheer anger when we have to tippy toe around it.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Publicly, anyway.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have no doubt he wouldn’t do the same.

I for one fear the consequences of his assassination but believe it moral as killing fascists is good

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's literally as moral as shooting Hitler if given the chance
