Pretending like being civil to a literal nazi is reasonable is bootlicking too.
Do you think the right is waiting for permission from us? Did you forget about the plot to kidnap Gretchen Witmer? Or when Paul Pelosi was assaulted with a hammer by a right wing home invader? Or, you know, when they tried to do a coup?

Jeffw? He's an active Lemmy poster and mod of many communities and always posts a ton of news content. Considering the recent events, it's not that surprising that a lot of news would be about groups paying lip service to wanting a fair political climate.

indeed. trump is completely removed from the suffering of others. everything has been performative so far. but the dems best be packing political heat in 72 hours or america is collectively cooked - but I have no faith that they will get their act together.
For fucken once I agree. At best the response shouldve been silence, just keep thine mouth shut. If ya only have good to say then its better to say nothing at all.

The smarter option here is to just say nothing. The right has been brutalizing people for decades, so much so that we've all probably forgotten half the insane shit they've done. Politicians don't have to outright condone ithe assassination attempt, but the right is a party of violence and isn't entitled to "decorum", they just treat it as a weakness.
Condeming the assassination attempt will earn them no good will with right-wingers, and won't stop their inevitable "retaliation".
I'm just gonna repost my comment here from a different post because i think it fits this one even better:
Its horrific to watch left (wing) leaning politicians tripping over themselves wishing trump a speedy recovery and condemning violence in any way, and then see the comments filled with fascists literally telling them that they will kill them for "demonizing the right and causing this to happen.".
It is terrifying.

This. This is what I mean. Political violence is never good. But trump’s rhetoric has made it… maybe justified?

The courts have certainly been incapable of halting his rampant criminality. And that’s a problem.
That sums up my feelings. The fascists will argue as if their opponents are the violent ones and so their violence is justified and necessary. They started the violent rhetoric. They’re the ones who want certain groups to not exist anymore however it has to happen.
They’re just going to “no you” and say whatever they think will get people to let them do violence

Stop showing these folks human decency and calling them your colleagues. They will not do the same for you, and are only okay with their in group having rights and not being harmed. Just this once I kind of wish a politican would tell him you eat shit. It won't happen, and it really shouldn't happen lest we be like the people we hate, but man, at least some GOP would have said it. It feels unfair they're allowed to express their sheer anger when we have to tippy toe around it.
