You know what might have been a clue? The past!

  • March 2017: Proposed $5.8 billion (18%) cut to NIH funding, targeting cancer research indirectly.
  • February 2018: Proposed eliminating the John S. McCain Childhood Cancer Foundation.
  • June 2019: Revoked the Clean Power Plan, weakening air pollution controls linked to lung cancer prevention.
  • 2018: Delayed asbestos bans under the Toxic Substances Control Act, linked to cancer risks.
  • 2017-2019: Repeated attempts to repeal the ACA, threatening free cancer screenings like mammograms.
  • February 2020: Proposed $3 billion cut to NIH in the 2021 budget, while increasing defense spending.
  • July 2019: Reversed proposed bans on flavored e-cigarettes, undermining tobacco-use prevention.

If people are surprised, it's because they aren't paying attention, or they just think Trump is BASED until the ramifications show up at their doorstep.

elon is the kind of dipshit who probably holds the belief that the commoners' cancer can be compensated with a higher birth rate. People are just a resource to him.

Nauseating to see this tiny man claim to want to go to mars when he can't even crawl out of his own ass.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

He doesn't think of those people at all.

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Maybe I'm just OOTL but why bring up muskrat?

He is the new president of the USA. I'm only half joking.

I knew he was going to hurt poor people, trans people, immigrants, US citizens born of immigrant parents, US citizens of color, women, children, and even people in need of healthcare and research. that was all fine. it was fun, actually, i made fun of them online, and tried to rub it on their face after the election as much as possible.

... but I didn't think he would also hurt this very specific portion of them which also affects me.

fuck cancer, and fuck this guy. this guy is cancer.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 92 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Actually he isn't allowed to run charities anymore because he ran a "Trump fund" for sick children, and...... it all went to Trump so..

Yeah he is Anti-Curing Childhood Cancer

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 57 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm going to vote for the guy who stole from a children's cancer charity, because that's just smart business.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And then for some reason think he'll run the government like a business for their benefit instead of running it to the ground for his own benefit. After his first presidency was basically a scheme to funnel federal money into his hotels once he realized he could manufacture situations to force them to pay for rooms.

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Who in the fuck even convinced these mouth breathers that a government should be run like a business in the first place? Jesus fucking Christ that's the dumbest shit ever.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 5 points 1 day ago

I think a lot of people who say that have never been close to how a business actually runs.

There's a ton of corruption and waste

Most businesses fail

Most businesses don't have to serve everyone. Like there's ADA requirements sometimes, but they're not exhaustive and not always enforced.

He was supposed to divest interest in any business that would present even the appearance of a conflict of interest, as has been done for almost 250 years. Jimmy Carter sold his peanut farm to prevent any possible appearance of corruption. Trump on the other hand put his whole staff up in his hotel, charging the American taxpayers millions of dollars per day, and sold Goyo bean commercials directly from the oval office. In typical modern fashion, the judicial and legislative branches of the government shrugged their shoulders and said "I guess there's nothing we can do". People talk about the damage trump may cause during his second term. Like WTF? He already outright destroyed any government credibility during his first term, dismantled trust in the free press, killed a bunch of funding, made enemies of our allies, and allies of our enemies, and cut corporate taxes even further. He has already destroyed what America was in the minds of its citizens. What more can he do, except remove the veil, and any pretense that we're a nation of the people, by the people, for the people? At least then there would be honesty, and perhaps the blind could see.

"I didnt know the guy that literally stole money from cancer kids via a fraudulent charity, an act so depraved he is no longer to run any sort of charity, would take money away from cancer kids. GOD DAMN LIBERALS!"

[–] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And God damn those woke cancer kids, America was stronger when we didn't give out participation medicine to cancer kids at all. We just cured cancer with our bootstraps and our heavily leaded air.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 266 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I didn't mind the bigotry, racism and anti-democratic scheming but this is where i draw the line.

[–] Visstix@lemmy.world 148 points 3 days ago

Yeah they draw the line right in front of them. And they only notice someone crossing it when it hits them in the face.

"We never expected that the guy who told us to fight Covid by eating horse paste and shoving UV lights up our butts wouldn't know a damn thing about science."

[–] ours@lemmy.world 62 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Give him some credit... he also suggested ingesting bleach. Technically it would have killed COVID and guaranteed the patient never got COVID or any other sickness ever again.

The bad shit hasn't even started yet.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I genuinely believe that the best case scenario for America is that it all goes to shit SO FAST that even his most ardent supporters have to say "No, this is fucked. He needs to go."

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I heard that Vance is twice as bad.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Vance doesnt have the cult of personality behind him.

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

He doesn't need them. He's already VP.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Yeah but in 4 years unless Trump tries to go full Putin thats going to matter.

At least 30% of the population has drunk the Kool-Aid and is so deep in, nothing, not anything, will turn them from their God King.

[–] shasta@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Only because they believe they will be unaffected or benefit. If they are negatively impacted, they will flip so fast

[–] blady_blah@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Republican propaganda outlets will tell them that there is no problem and they'll believe it. If not that, they'll tell them the problem is a fault of the "others", and they'll get even more on board the maga hate train. They're a lost cause.

Why would you expect that he wouldn't? He defrauded a KIDS cancer organization. He doesn't give a fuck about anyone that isn't him

No you don't get clout for regretting your clearly terrible decision.

[–] alaphic@lemmy.world 120 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I didn't expect...

Good news everyone!

I've developed a nearly foolproof method for preventing anyone else from sharing this fuckin sucker's experience, and will share it here - free of charge - today only!

It's simple. All you have to do is ask yourself a single question: Does X effect Trump’s Y?

Replace X with the issue or item you're concerned with.

Then replace Y with one of the following: health | self-image | bank account | stock market

If your answer is 'No,' congratulations, you now know that Trump will indeed NOT give a single fuck about your problem. Also, it's probably some sort of peasant issue anyway.

If your answer is 'Yes,' you're likely still fucked somehow! 😁

Don't be fooled. Most of the people who voted this way haven't figured it out yet.

[–] WeUnite@lemm.ee 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's true. It's sad seeing how many people are still in the cult.

Republicans think Trump holds conservative values because he regurgitated their speaking points. Like most politicians on any side but to an extreme level, Trump holds no values except those that he thinks will lead to more money or power for him.

This is my mother. In her 80s, racist AF, conservative, voted for Trump, has cancer, on Medicare, etc. Now she expresses her worry that Medicare funding will be cut. But she's also betting that because Musk is a "genius" he won't take benefits away from the elderly.

I hope the eventually destruction of the federal government makes people realize how much it helps them.

Nah, they'll do the same as always: Find something or someone to blame that isn't themselves or their favorite ~~sports~~ political team, continue as usual.
