It's because they're the exception.

[–] trumpetmouth@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Is that the exception to the spelling rule?

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

No, it’s the exeption.

[–] milicent_bystandr@lemm.ee 12 points 2 months ago

I think it's a FORTRAN command. Probably radar guns still use FORTRAN for their AI processing, being from the 50s and all.

Yeah, this checks out. They're "exept".

No, you're being an asshole. Also you ran a red light.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I travelled through a red light.

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

That's a penalty. You gotta be dribbeling through those lights

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Light has no jurisdiction over a Free Person traveling the land.

I wonder what their response to a request to see a visa or green card would be, since they claim not to be US citizens.

Unfortunately, a lot of times, the cops know they aren't paid enough to deal with SovCit shit, so they just let them go if they even bother to pull them over in the first place.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm hearing that this works then?

[–] Underwaterbob@lemm.ee 8 points 2 months ago

Presumably until you get into a car accident or pulled over for any other reason. Then, it's probably off to jail with you. At least I hope.

  1. Open an etsy shop.
  2. Start selling fake licence plates with bullshit on them.
  3. Profit

Yup, we got all the steps.

[–] bob_lemon 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Making money is much easier of you have no moral qualms about profiting off stupid and/or insane people.

I was wondering how much these guys pay for this. We should sell bumper stickers, too. Conspiracy guys love stickers.

[–] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 6 points 2 months ago

I found a sovcit plate on Etsy for $25.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 50 points 2 months ago (3 children)
[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Shouldn't it be EXEMPT, though?

What are the odds this was written by a professor of renaissance English literature, or that it was written by someone who doesn’t know how to spell correctly?

That’s some Ye Olde Wyrlde type bullshit going on there.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Its part of the sovcit magic, like noticing the gold fringe on a court flag lets you move to Go and collect 200 dollars, then on your next turn you get another 200 dollars for actually passing go.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 46 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Sometimes I wish I lacked enough scruples to get in on the sovcit merch grift.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Why not? All you have to do is add in small fine print “This is for novelty purposes only” to the items and you should be able to claim they are joke items.

Good that they declare "No Drivers License-No Insurance-No registration-No Inspection" right there on their tags, that'll make it easier for the cops to know what else they're stopping them for.

Jfc is this how I need to make money? Is it wrong to take money from willing stupid people?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I approached a friend asking whether we should grift the far-right this year. The logic is that they'll spend that money anyway, so why not direct it toward ourselves. We haven't chosen to take action yet.

[–] WarlordSdocy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Personally I think it's fine to do that. Better that you get that money then either some right wing person who is gonna use it to promote their horrible causes more or some right wing company gets it and does that on a bigger scale.

"The United States of America Republic" just does not roll off the tongue. We should change that name to something shorter.

This is going to be hilarious when someone decides to take their declarations of “not a citizen” seriously.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'd be mad if I ordered it and it said exept instead of exempt.
