Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Why was it ever on the table?

[–] ganksy@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago

I think sometimes people can fool themselves into thinking they're in the club because they have all the proper garb and enjoy the culture that said club specifically designed to be exclusive.

This was verbatim what I was thinking when I saw this

Republicans hate non-rural people, even though none of them are rural people. It gets the dumb hillbillies to fall in line.

If your support is never on the table, your support doesn't matter.

Again, Vance claims he's being taken out of context, only to have Mother Jones expand on his comments in their totality and embarrass the fuck out of him. I'm starting to not hate this timeline as much these days.

What's going on with that Large Hadron Collider these days?

[–] mipadaitu@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They started running it backwards

[–] Tyfud@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Backwards? Marty! Your can't just go 88mph in reverse !

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

We won't go back! That's not how this works!

I think it just found neutrinos the other day(?)

This dude knows that he will never receive a sincere apology, right?

They want your vote, homey. After that they will turn off the spigot, take your land for peanuts, and some silicon valley tech bro will put his child rape mansion on the empty spot.

Vance described a federal program that has distributed nearly $2 billion to mostly Black farmers who experienced discrimination as “disgraceful,” suggesting that it is racist against white people.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 42 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But Vance’s assertions here are an inaccurate portrayal of the Discrimination Financial Assistance Program, the federal program established through the Inflation Reduction Act. Contrary to Vance’s claim, applicants were not limited to Black farmers; Any farmer who had experienced discrimination by the US Department of Agriculture—including based on sexual orientation or gender identity, religion, age, or disability—was eligible to apply.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's awesome. So it's potentially available to non-whites, women, gays, trans-folk, atheists et al., and the disabled. But if you are a stereotypical cis-het white guy you're out. I can see why Republicans would be pissed. I hope it makes them seethe uncontrollably.

[–] WHYAREWEALLCAPS@fedia.io 26 points 2 months ago

Yeah, they bitch about not getting their piece of the pie, yet they've eaten 99% of the pie already. They refuse to understand that the discrimination against non cishet white people has already enriched them.

"The Harris Administration, for example, handed out farm benefits to people based on skin color."

Does J.D. Vance think that Kamala Harris is the current president? lmao

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago

Does J.D. Vance think

He does not.

[–] reddwarf@feddit.nl 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

And what if he gives an apology? It will never be a sincere one but let’s say he utters the words.
Then it’s back to endorsing him, right? I’m sure it will be.

He just told you how he truly thinks and I believe morons still think they are in the “in group” and support these vile republicans.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 2 months ago

Maybe Vance will double down and state he doesn't need to apologize, digging the hole deeper. That seems to be Trump's strategy lately.
