I am quite sure that a lot of German CDU/CSU and FDP voters would also vote Trump over Harris, if these were the two only choices for the next federal election in Germany.

What we mostly hear about them is Trump being the crazy criminal and Harris being the rational decent person. It is very detached from the policies and also we saw how the right and far right media in Germany wrecked havoc on the Green party in the 2021 pre-election time. So the way the media and people talk about them would be very different. Also we have Merz having a stable high polling at 30-35% with going the Trump route. Just that instead of eating peoples pets, immigrants are stealing dentist appointments. The CSU also copied a lot of the anti LGBT propaganda from the US Republicans, the Greens are the source of all economic problems...

We are a lot closer to electing Trump-like people than this study suggests.

There is a great spot for this at around 90°N or 90°S

Vielleicht etwas was an germanische Runen erinnernt oder so? Vikinger haben doch Tradition in Sachsen.

But not if the pressure is mostly coming from the external. Or worse if we look at Egypt, where now an even worse dictator than Mubarak rules, after the Egyptians have elected people the West didn't like, and getting couped quickly.

Lindner is not alone. His other ministers are also causing a lot of damage and his party seems to be in support of all that.

1953 is some 36/37 years before the eventual collapse of the Sovjet Union.

Also z.B.

They already won culturally, as they managed to shift the political culture closer towards theirs. They also managed to set issues that are "theirs". We see the same shit in Europe, were supposedly progressive parties are implementing the wildest dreams of racist anti-immigration, anti-refugee, anti-science and authoritarian surveillance state policies that the fascists dreamed off. All in the name of "stopping" them, while neglecting actually relevant issues like social services and infrastructure investments. Rinse and repeat and by the time the fascists take over all they have to do is remove the remaining formalities of division of power and democracy.

So then why did we get further environmental destruction and more war on terror under Obama? Why was Hillary Clinton, a notorious war hawk set to succeed Obama instead of someone with genuinely progressive positions?

The US has a fascist far right and a far right with gay rights party up for election. And the far right with gay rights party has become more reactionary on issues like immigration and also in many places violently cracked down on peaceful anti-racist protests. It is currently violently cracking down on anti-genocide protests. Maybe there is a chance to reform that party. But this requires a mass uprising against the entrenched party elite. The party elite that has used the fascist far right as a boogeyman threat to not question their power. A threat that they rather accept bringing into power than to provide non-genocide, non-racist, non-exploitative policies.
