Should we also boycott companies that basically do what Trump wants by making other nations pay the US tariffs? E.g. in the link you can read about Sony (Japan) and Xbox (Microsoft - US). I know Microsoft is already American, but it is another major manufacturer that is hiking prices globally.

Those are so far few companies, but I read that some clothing brands and even food markets are discussing about this option.

What do you think?

Anti-communism. Most countries in the mid east were much more progressive until the 60s or 70s, when the west started to encourage religious radicals to counter soviet influence.

But as somebody else said, this is not mainstream islam!

Es geht ja nur darum dass die Entscheider unter den Angestellten im Interesse der Eigentümer entscheiden, weil sie sich ihnen ähnlich sehen.

For much of modern history, technological progress has been expected to lighten the burden of work. Keynes (1930) predicted that by 2030, rising productivity would allow people to work 15 hours a week. As artificial intelligence is integrated into workplaces, early evidence suggests a paradox: instead of reducing workloads, many AI-equipped employees are busier than ever. While AI-driven automation and delegation allow workers to complete the same tasks more efficiently, employees in AI-exposed occupations might well be working longer hours and spending less time on socialisation and leisure. …

Michael Gloss, 21, was the son of CIA Deputy Director for Digital Innovation Julianne Gallina Gloss, and Iraq war veteran Larry Gloss.

Before arriving in Russia on August 13, 2023, Gloss was travelling around Europe. On his Vkontakte page bio, he wrote: "I ran away from home (and) traveled the world. I hate fascism."

On April 4, 2024, he was killed, likely during a Russian offensive near Bakhmut, however, his burial in the U.S. did not take place until December 2024, Important Stories reports.

President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon for loyalist Michele Fiore, who paid for her plastic surgery with funds that were meant for a statue honoring a slain police officer

For those living in Asia and other parts of the world where big cities generally = bad to dangerously bad air, the idea of putting more stuff in the atmosphere because global warming sounds like an intuitively bad idea. That is before getting to the fact that there is no meaningful regulation of geoengineering, that there are serious questions as to whether the effects of any operations can be contained, and the standards for determining effectiveness versus harm. This like GMOs is on its way to become a great experiment upon the general public without consents or controls.

On top of that, the Israeli angle gives me the willies. Since this is a commercial operation, if any of its experiments actually do prove to be harmful, the odds seem high that those approaches would be repurposed as weapons. In fact, it’s almost certain that these applications would produce faster and greater profits than the climate-change-combatting geoengineering sort.

In 2023, the Biden administration reached a settlement to help provide modern sanitation infrastructure to residents of Lowndes County, a predominantly Black county in Alabama. The Trump White House could not let this injustice stand.

We haven’t written about Balan’s case before because it’s been such a long time coming, and filled with various arcane legal wranglings. There will likely be more steps to come, many of which are boring legal maneuvers, but perhaps this case will now have a chance to go more public now that the arbitration decision has been thrown out.

Bitcoin mines—massive computing clusters generating cryptocurrency tokens—consume vast amounts of electricity. The amount of fine particle (PM2.5) air pollution created because of their electricity consumption and its effect on environmental health is pending. In this study, we located the 34 largest mines in the United States in 2022, identified the electricity-generating plants that responded to them, and pinpointed communities most harmed by Bitcoin mine-attributable air pollution. From mid-2022 to mid-2023, the 34 mines consumed 32.3 terawatt-hours of electricity—33% more than Los Angeles—85% of which came from fossil fuels. We estimated that 1.9 million Americans were exposed to ≥0.1 μg/m3 of additional PM2.5 pollution from Bitcoin mines, often hundreds of miles away from the communities they affected. Americans living in four regions—including New York City and near Houston—were exposed to the highest Bitcoin mine-attributable PM2.5 concentrations (≥0.5 μg/m3) with the greatest health risks.
