Good idea ... how about just a system where everyone elects a regional representative and leave it at that.

No political parties, just political reps representing their region.

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 30 points 4 months ago (2 children)

What about a ring that gives the wearer supreme power?

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What about a gauntlet that requires gems of state reps. And it has a 50% of working and a 50% of killing whoever is wearing it. But when it works, it has a 50% chance of making things worse.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 months ago

I think you just went full circle.

[–] casmael@lemm.ee 8 points 4 months ago

Intriguing perhaps some additional rings could be forged simultaneously to enable greater synergy through delegation of power to representatives of various ~~species~~ states, parties etc

No, communism has a centrally planned, state-directed economy. Only some executive functions are regional, but the power also lies at very few people in the end.

[–] FiniteBanjo@lemmy.today 6 points 4 months ago

But they all have to pool military power and resources to maintain an active army. So I guess we'll just have to select one Secretary General who leads them. /s

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

But then how would we have a Supreme Court to rule all of heaven and earth like self appointed god kings?

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 3 points 4 months ago

Does it have to be connected to the dirt I live near? Maybe we can all vote for people and those with more votes can represent us more?

I get there are regional issues, but not everything is regional.

Except every Soviet was eventually dominated by one political party, with no competition against it allowed. That's a far cry from "everyone just elects the best representative for their region no parties"

[–] Zwiebel -1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No, because not every soviet was in the USSR. And it doesn't change that OPs idea is literally soviets https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_(council)

[–] Bernie_Sandals@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Oh, sorry, I could've added an addendum to my comment.

"Every Soviet eventually became dominated by one party or died"

I'm quite aware of the other council based systems that cropped up (most familiar with Mahkno) and the attempts to reform the soviet system (most familiar with Kronstadt) but all of those died, so there's not much point in mentioning them. I also don't see the point of saying "it's just like soviets" when that version of the Soviets has only existed for at most a year or two, or completely only in theory.

Maybe leaders are a bad idea.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Maybe centralizing that much power under one person is folly and we should split up the powers of civilian head of the military, head of the executive branch of government, veto power over the Senate, and whatever other powers have encroached into the office.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 17 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Ban all political parties except cat people party and dog people party. All debates will just be submissions of each party cutest animal.

Put all horse girls on a watch list. Put snake people in charge of the CIA.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Are you talking cat people as in people who like cats or people cat hybrids because this is research I can get behind

[–] ComradePorkRoll@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Syndicalism is the only way.

[–] ThrowawayPermanente@sh.itjust.works 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Nobody 2024, let's do this

[–] bfg9k@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Nobody will do the right thing

Nobody will look out for and solve issues in your local community

Nobody is educated and smart about using resources

Nobody will make your life better

Nobody cares

Well that got real in a fucking hurry

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Nobody will start WW3

[–] SomeGuy69@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Nobody knows who I really am.

[–] erusuoyera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Nobody knows the trouble I've seen.

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 20 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Is Trump the person least appropriate to be president of the United States? Maybe.

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'd say he's just slightly better than the worms in RFK Jr's brain, but just barely.

He should drop out.

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Maybe Kamala will win and trump will be seen for the sore loser he is, even by republicans.

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

200+ upvotes and one other comment. Not much to say, sounds like we are all in agreement.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

The fact that he is allowed to even run is insane. Traitors should be in prison.

[–] FiniteBanjo@lemmy.today 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

At that point the most powerful and influential people in all the land would be remaining cabinet members, the FBI, the CIA, the Pentagon, and the SCOTUS.

Congress would become nothing more than a budget and accounting office for our true overlords, and the Senate would have no tiebreakers.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Ghost ride the whip except the whip is the most powerful country on earth

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

By jove I think he's on to something

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech 5 points 4 months ago

Sure, let's run the country like me: total lack of executive function.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The presidency would then fall to the speaker of the house, so you arent getting off that easy

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I hearby nominate Londo Molari, of House Molari, as Prime Minister.

[–] ulterno@lemmy.kde.social -2 points 4 months ago

That's when you realise, the President was just the figurehead.
What's gonna be done, is gonna be done.
