I hope this gets thrown out swiftly. FFS what is wrong with these people?

As if the internet was not full of porn and horrible stuff FREELY available to everyone who can click "I am 18".

But no, free acces to educational resources, that's where the line should be drawn. God forbid kids get access to books for free.

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 64 points 1 month ago (4 children)

They're trying to shut down porn on the Internet, too. Didn't Texas already effectively ban it because you have to provide ID verification now?

[–] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 59 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Texas "effectively" banned non abusive porn. You think that those abuse and rape porn sites care about yet another law broken? And that it effectively keeps people in Texas from seeing any of it?

The only thing banning porn does is benefit abusers.

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago (5 children)

The ban is yet another example of how out of touch the geriatrics are with technology. The only companies that would ever comply with the ban are American based websites that fear the reach of a u.s. government. In other words, that ban has about as much chance of actually banning porn as I do of stopping rain by yelling at the clouds. All it does is push people to weird foreign/non regulated sites with the weirdest shit imaginable on it. It's literally doing the exact opposite of what's intended.

Not to mention it is 100% avoidable if you just have a VPN...

Effectively is probably not the right word

I'm in Utah and I need a VPN to access porn sites. Even if the nation implements id verification requirements for viewing it, I'll just set my VPN to Canada or something. It's stupid

Ryan Walters

Office of the Secretary of Education

State of Oklahoma

Oklahoma State Board of Education:

In light of recent events involving Norman High School English Teacher Summer Boismier, I am asking the Oklahoma State Board of Education to revoke her teaching certificate immediately.

Upon review of the situation, the teacher resigned rather than face removal. There is no place for a teacher with a liberal political agenda in the classroom. Ms. Boismier's providing access to banned and pornographic material to students is unacceptable and we must ensure she doesn't go to another district and do the same thing. This action must be dealt with swiftly and with respect to all our kids and parents.

Teachers are one of our state's greatest assets and it is unfortunate that one of them has caused such harm and shame for the entire profession. This type of behavior will not be tolerated in Oklahoma and I speak for parents across the state who are demanding swift and immediate action.

Kids first,

Ry Walter

I want to punch this guy in the face so much. Kids first…

Meanwhile cops get caught doing actual bad shit and just resign and go to the next county.

[–] Breve@pawb.social 39 points 1 month ago

Meanwhile priests get caught molesting children and don't have to resign because the church silently moves them to another parish hoping nobody else finds out.

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 32 points 1 month ago

the teacher resigned rather than face removal

This gets awkward if you don’t immediately recognize ‘face’ as the verb here.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

I want to punch this guy in the face so much.

Waiting for the reactionary who blinks straight passed the OK Sec of Ed trying to financially ruin a teacher for handing out digital library cards and accuses liberals of advocating violence.

[–] Delusional@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Jesus Christ that is a person that shouldn't be anywhere near kids. How do we get him rightfully fired and blacklisted from being around children?

An Oklahoma teacher left her job after the state's Secretary of Education accused her of giving students "banned and pornographic material." The accusation came after Summer Boismier posted a QR code for the Brooklyn Public Library's "Books UnBanned" program. It allows anyone 13 to 21 years old to access the library's entire digital collection for free.

Recognizing Two Years of Books Unbanned

In April 2022, Brooklyn Public Library joined those fighting for the rights of teens nationwide to read what they like, discover themselves, and form their own opinions. Inspired by the American Library Association's Freedom to Read Statement, Books Unbanned is a response to an increasingly coordinated and effective effort to remove books from library shelves.

The Liberal political agenda of letting teenagers read books.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Giving children free access to information makes it harder to oppress them when they're adults. Can't have that!

[–] hypnotoad__@lemmy.ml 62 points 1 month ago

These people are fascists, plain and simple. This country is pretty fucked

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 46 points 1 month ago

These fascist pieces of shit need their breathing certificates revoked.

As a porn watcher I think it's ironic that most pornstars (and all hotwives I've seen) are from the South and toute a gun loving, right wing Texas personality. Meanwhile this secretary tries to protect kids from the leftist books.

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 9 points 1 month ago

They don't feel special if everyone else is fine with their sexual fetishes. That undermines their persecution fetish!

I rarely look at the text of legislative bills, but how does some of this language wind up in binding laws?

"Harmful to minors" includes in its meaning the quality of any material or of any performance or of any description or representation, in whatever form, of nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement, or sado-masochistic abuse, when it: (a) Appeals to the prurient interest of minors as judged by the average person, applying contemporary community standards;

Who the fuck is the "average person"? What the fuck are "contemporary community standards"? Realistically, I know it's on purpose to give the courts leeway to apply the law loosely, but it's still outrageous.

§18-1513

§18-1514

Who the fuck is the "average person"?

A Chinese Muslim woman named Mohammed with one breast and one testicle.

This country is a nightmare. Just reinforces my desire to not have children. Not that I can afford them anyways.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not as bad if you don't live in the shithole states.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

I live in NJ and still had to deal with conservative teachers. They're just more subtle about it then this. The liberal ones would dance around supporting Climate Change, but the conservatives ones would talk about how great things like US Military "Intervention" was or complain about welfare queens.

May his heart stop swiftly and naturally.

[–] SaintWacko@midwest.social 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Or unnaturally. I'm not picky

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

This my attempt to walk the line between advocating for violence, and expressing my belief that the world would be a better place without these fucks in it. I don't want someone to go out and kill them, I'd rather nature expedites their life cycle. But if some loony toons 2a nut job comes unhinged, I won't shed tears.

No book should be banned except The Art of the Deal for being completely useless and teaching you nothing about deal making.

Just file it under "humor/comedy"
