This is it. Republicans doubling down on authoritarianism.

This is the wind we needed. JD Vance confirms that Trump's gonna cut off Ukrainian aid and a lot of other important issues. This is a huge mistake for Trump. Trump needed someone (like Pence) who could be seen as a kinder gentler kind of conservative. Not a firebrand like JD Vance.

For a certain class of voters who might not care about those issues (which I will agree are all actually very important) - point out how he's an Ivy league educated elite, whose military service was being a PR officer, and who's said things like this about the working class whites he supposedly speaks for

People talk about hard work all the time in places like Middletown. You can walk through a town where 30 percent of the young men work fewer than twenty hours a week and find not a single person aware of his own laziness.

The guy is the exact sort of elite phony that ought to piss off Trump's core supporters if anyone could get them to realize it

Trump is a literal New York Billionaire Real Estate Mogul.

If anyone actually cared about the "coastal elites" catchphrase, they'd have turned on Trump a long long time ago.

It seems you don't understand: people know who their chosen deities actually are, they simply don't care, as long as they feel they advance their own agendas.

The 5 word phrase of the week occupies their entire brain.

Mine too, sometimes. For different reasons, hopefully obvious.

If trump wins this makes a lame duck general europe was more likely.

Incomprehensibly bad pick. Marc Andreesen must be the only person in the country who likes that clown. There must be a lot of high-fives at Biden HQ right now.

Also, in true American MSM fashion, the article leaves out the best part, this quote of Vance's from 2016:

"I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler"

Sh sh shshhhhhhh.

We have months, fucking months, where we can trickle this out to the public consciousness. Just wait.

The timing is needed. We need to ensure that all the Democrats are behind someone (Biden or Harris IMO) before we make such pushes for the final election. We need to either reconsolidate support for Biden, or get the Democrats to choose Harris (or some other reasonable pick) before making our push vs Trump / JD Vance.

There's so much gold here. This is an incomprehensively bad pick for Trump team with regards to the Election, even if JD Vance and Trump are likely aligned to do horrible things together if they actually get the win.

But first things first. Reconsolidate Democrats into some banner is priority #1.

I really don't get this pick. It's so bad. A religious conservative like Pence or a token black guy would have made far more sense. I suppose it shows that Trump cares about loyalty above all else.

Its the Hitler / Gobbels pick.

Trump is doubling down upon how he wants his administration to be run. Not trying to build a coalition anymore. Therein lies the weakness, Trump's base is going to be smaller than ever before.

This increases the damage if Trump actually becomes President though. So its more important than ever that we stop this. But the ever-shrinking base is quite evident.

Exactly, and for all the whining about Biden's age, Trump is only one Big Mac away from keeling over too. I doubt many Americans want President Vance.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Mandarin. Russian is just a vassal state of China now.

[–] DmMacniel 2 points 1 month ago

hope the EU portion of NATO can hold.

[–] enbyecho@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Here's my slightly outlandish but not really prediction for posterity: If Trump wins either he will have JD Vance taken out or JD will at least try to bump Trump off toward the end of his term. My guess is that Vance will try to claim Trump has lost it (and he'd be right) and seize power, stopping any 2028 election. I don't think he'd be successful but my money is on him trying.

The beard is not fooling me. This man has no chin.

He only picked him because his eyeliner reminds him of Melania.
