Judges ruled that they do not have the procedural authority to withdraw the execution order at this time.

I'm going to suggest the system might not work.

It's bureaucracy. The hearing is well before the scheduled execution, and it sounds likely that the hearing will vacate the conviction, from what I read. The court is just saying that there's an established process for this and the lawyers just need to follow that process.

ETA: Not to say that our legal system isn't horribly broken, because it is. Just saying that my interpretation of this case is that Marcellus is just a few dotted i's and crossed t's away from being a free man.

Assuming he is not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, each additional day on death row is an affront to justice.

The courts need to speed up the process, which is what the prosecutor is basically asking for by not wanting to wait.

The governor can almost certainly grant a stay of execution until this is resolved, too.

Yup, gubna droopy dawg was always terrible. During the pandemic. When the vaccine started rolling out it should have gone to population centers and first responders. It went to Timbuktu. Because the population centers were blue. Vulnerable people and first responders had to make cross state treks trying to get the vaccine. The cities and urban areas were some of the last areas to get it. Because for him, racism and cruelty were the point.

"We don't care if he's innocent. How often do we get to have a good ol' lynching these days?"

"If we don't use all this killy stuff that we paid for that's just wasteful."

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

I don't know, I'm sure they'd be fine letting it go to waste if Mr. Williams was of a lighter skin tone.

If you're a cop, it's not uncommon.

Of the prosecutor is the one trying to overturn, it seems like a good idea to listen to them. Wtf
