Anyone wanna guess who those same cops voted for?
In this particular instance, I'm going to doubt many of them voted for him because he was very vocal about planning to pardon the insurrectionists.
The schadenfreude is delicious seeing class traitors get shafted by the upper class, but at the end of the day trump has his extralegal brownshirts now.
"class traitor". Go away with that bs, they did their country a service by protecting the integrity of the US democracy against a violent mob. I get being upset how the police handles many issues but they are still needed. I doubt we'd be better off without them completely and no one is reporting on cops that follow their job honorably. They are here to protect the people. Yes, the system needs to be improved and the cops need to be trained properly and transparency has to be increased. Its just I still think the executive needs someone to enforce laws. Judiciary and legislature are nothing without that aspect so stop being so condescending to those who defended democratically elected representatives back then against the mob.
I can see your issue with the police union endorsing trump but still. "class traitor", really?
American police do not exist to protect the populace, and this isn't just some philosophical "they act unethically a lot" thing, this is established by the Supreme Court that police have no duty to protect and serve despite it being emblazoned on everything. American police are at their core publicly funded private security for the assets of the wealthy and act as tools of harassment against anyone who would defy the wealthy.
Anyone who becomes a cop in the US is a class traitor. They become part of an apparatus of harm against the common person, every time a cop does something illegal, or every time the buddies look the other way, or lie about events on reports, it all contributes to a system of harm.
How to handle class traitors who've also been hurt by the system they uphold... I don't know... I 100% get not wanting to trust someone who participated in and furthered the harms done by cops, but, in being ideologically consistent, I also get that all people in the ideal society I'd like to see are given the opportunity to make amends and restore their position in society.
I mean, they're police officers, they have access to the resources to find these traitors and hunt them like animals... So maybe they can do their fucking jobs
It's actually a serious offense to use law enforcement information systems for personal reasons. Dispatchers and emergency call takers would get fired for it. Police, maybe desk duty and a reprimand or something. Still, it is considered serious.
Source: used to be a dispatcher and 911 calltaker.
It used to be a serious offense to stage a coup.
I wonder how many might have voted for him.
Protecting his Brownshirts.
Ensuring their loyal jackbooted thuggery to support his tyranny.
when you fail to juggle police state with fascist right wing voters. maybe take some lessons from Erdoğan, he seems to be handling that greatly.
