This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

!world@lemmy.world mods once again proving their incapacity to host a space for “world” news.

Terminology citation

Under Canada's Westminster-style parliamentary democracy, the terms government and Government of Canada refer specifically to the prime minister, Cabinet, and other members of the governing party inside the House of Commons, but typically includes the federal public service and federal departments and agencies when used elsewhere.[7] This differs from the United States, where the executive branch is referred to as an administration and the federal government encompasses executive, legislative, and judicial powers, similar to the Canadian Crown.

Emphasis mine. In particular I note that capitalization is not a factor. The fact that Voroxpete didn’t specify “capital G Government” doesn’t make a difference as I originally thought when reading.

I think people need to start saying:

Government of Canada (aka: The Prime Minister & Cabinet, and Members of Legislature supporting thereof)

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 2 points 2 days ago

thats true, how dare anyone use language differently from the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🔥🔥🔥

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I've said this before, I'll say this again. news@lemmy.world, worldnews@lemmy.world, and politics@lemmy.world (all of which are run by roughly the same group of mods), is a growing cancer in the fediverse.

Alternatives: !world@quokk.au !globalnews@lemmy.zip

Some other news communities:

They removed a comment essentially saying "I'm Canadian" as misinformation? Do Canadians not exist?

[–] RageAgainstTheRich@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Canada is a country made up for the comedy TV series Letterkenny.

FUCKING EMBARRASSING!

[–] adam_y@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Canadians are a hoax perpetrated by the Scottish to sell cold weather.

I mean, just listen to that accent. Clearly made up.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

jordanlund knows a truth we aren’t strong enough to accept, clearly

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ugh, I knew it'd be Jordanlund before I saw the instance. I like them as a fellow forum user, but they should NOT be moderating anything. They remove comments they disagree with and use the moderation reason as a "you're wrong and my opinion is the final word now" field. Absolutely bullshit.

I could see their tendencies working well in NCD, r/atheism or another community with a very specific vision and focus from leadership.

not world news though lmao

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 15 points 5 days ago

Come on don’t tell me you believe they’re real? No one can survive weather that cold. It’s an obvious fairy tail.

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Now they know how i feel as an aussie. If im an actor wheres my paycheck.

[–] superkret 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

How bad must it be for New Zealanders? Their entire country doesn't exist.

[–] Blaze 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Lemmy.nz exists. No lemmy.usa as far as I know. Does this mean the USA do not exist? /s

On a more serious note, there is !AskUSA@discuss.online

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There's lemmyusa.com, though that one is relatively new.

3 users, 2 posts (it says, but only see 1?), 1 community

The post

Only 1 admin, though looks like a joint account.

Strictly Photon UI though, not base Lemmy?

Neat sidebar text (for those who can find it:-).

We'll see I suppose.

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

Well at least everyone knows not to put a fake country like theirs on the map.

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 4 points 5 days ago

Now they don't!

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don't tell me, you still believe in Canada 🤣

[–] DemBoSain@midwest.social 2 points 5 days ago

I've often stood in the south shore of Lake Superior, straining my eyes, wondering what's on the other side of that vast expanse of water. They say that's where Canada is. I've never seen it, I don't think it actually exists

I had a Turkish news post that I translated REMOVED

will post them in here from now on

[–] lvxferre@mander.xyz 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Thanks for consistently sharing those two links.

[–] Blaze 6 points 5 days ago

We should probably make an announcement somewhere at some point, so that they become known once and for all

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

PTB + CML (with respect to Canadian politics) on this one I think.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

i concur.

fine to be clueless on occasion, i myself have been that way at many points. not fine to be unwilling to do 5 seconds of research before ~~banning~~ removing for misinformation.

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

"misinformation" shouldn't be a removable rule lol, unless it's about a specific conspiracy, misinformation can be wrongly enforced due to one ignorance. This is no different than tankie bs.

[–] bane_killgrind@slrpnk.net 6 points 5 days ago

As a Canadian, no lol

One dumb mod doesn't make or break the need for misinformation to be removed
