Now it is Latinos but once Stephen Miller pushes denaturalization bill through, Asians (mainly Indians and Chinese) are going to be next.

And I don't know about Chinese but there are plenty of Indians who love Trump, usually along with Modi (I do NOT want to see that rule34). They're in for a rude surprise when their H-1B or Green card is revoked along with citizenship of their born in the US children.

Totally agree with your point, but I have a bit of hope regarding the citizenship point. Birthright citizenship is a result of the 14th amendment, so revoking it would be very difficult. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe they try to ignore court decisions, or just deport people without due process. But, getting rid of the 14th wouldn't happen, so things could be undone (in theory).

The law only matters when it's enforced, and the current supreme court has already shown they will not uphold the Constitution when it suits them and their politics.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

wouldn't stop them from putting the kids in the system and deporting the parents

boarding schools run by 'good christian folk' on large plots of empty land, just like the not that distant past.

SCOTUS "See, if the founding fathers really thought birth right citizenship was important. They would have put it in the Constitution. It's an amendment and we all know amendments were not part of the orginal text so therefore, we rule that the 14th amendment was never in enforce."

The law? These people only care about power. If they want to start shipping out Indian children that were born here, they'll do it, and tell any complainers to talk to the (Republican) judge.

Who's stephen miller and what does he want to do??

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

He's a white supremacist/neo-nazi and he'll be deputy chief of staff in upcoming Trump administration.

He wants to round up and deport all immigrants from USA. Non-white ones, obviously.

[–] Enkrod 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

His only regret is that he doesn't know where to deport the natives to.

[–] osugi_sakae@midwest.social 1 points 1 week ago

North East Asia, but I'm pretty sure China and Russia would not be cool with it. So, they'd probably try dropping them in Korea or Japan.

Apparently, yeah. That's what denaturalization refers to. Taking away citizenship of Americans born to non-citizen parents.

The team will target terrorists, war criminals, sex offenders, and "other fraudsters", the DOJ said.

Eh, doesn't seem too bad on the surface. And he only did it to 30 people, it seems

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That was then. Who knows what's going to happen with all the sycophants in admin positions.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

True. I remember a similar legislation that was passed in the UK effectively allowing the Home Secretary to shut down protests. It gave too much power to them.

That movie is so much better than it has any right to be

[–] teft@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The only issue I have with that movie is that Jack Reacher is described as 6’ 5” 250lbs of muscle in the books.

Tom Cruise is not that. Alan Ritchson is a much closer version of Reacher.

[–] osugi_sakae@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago

Agree. The entire point of the character was that he was a guy that every bad guy would look at and decide they didn't need that kind of trouble.

The two seasons on Amazon are much closer to the books, at least wrt the main character.

No, Jack Reacher. I believe the first movie. Good movies by the way, because these movies are not just action and violence but some part investigation as well.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

There are multiples? That's good information to have.

I am concerned about the health of leopards. They have so much to eat in the upcoming days and weeks.

There will be a lot of "Leopards ate my face" stories in the foreseeable future.

It is the silver lining in this. That and forcing the EU to rearm properly and build an independent MIC and nuclear deterrence.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 23 points 1 week ago

"Am I one of the goods ones" they say as they are being dragged off by ICE agents to a deportation camp.

"I am a legal citizen" they plea to an ICE agent. "Sure, you are. Just like everyone else in the van." The ICE agent laughs.

I think we should laugh and ridicule these voters as much and as cruelly as possible so that they REMEMBER that this was THEIR fault and aren't talked into thinking it was progressives or Democrats several years from now.

Because these reactionaries will not remember this was the Republicans and their own doing if we only express sympathy for them. Just like they seemly forgot about Trump's virulently racists triad about Haitian immigrants eating dogs just months before the election.

What they will remember is my face laughing at them as they're hauled away because it's coming from someone they thought was beneath them. And that will make them remember why I laughed.

I do not care about the feelings of reactionaries even if they are from marginalized communities just as don't care about the harm they've inflicted on millions of undocumented immigrants that did not vote for Trump and these Trump supporters would have just as gladly watched them be deported if they weren't being included as well.

Fuck these sniveling liberal civility politics, they do not apply when we are talking about fascism.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Congratulations to that guy. We're through the 'fucked around' party. Welcome to the 'found out' part.
