Yep. Now just wait for the news article about a trans man getting beaten to death for walking into a women's bathroom.

When reading the headline I was worried that Ukraine had backslid into stupid conservative oppression. I'm not sure I'm relieved that I see its my own country instead. :(

I’m guessing the people writing these laws don’t realize that trans men exist too, because I’d almost guarantee they’re going to throw a tantrum when a trans man is forced into the women’s restroom.

GOP: "gun laws don't do anything! bad people will do bad things regardless of the law! you're only hurting law abiding citizens!"

also GOP: "we need LAWS about who can use what bathroom!!!"

Please list the country when using place names. I thought this was talking about Odessa, Ukraine and was surprised.

If I'd known it was the backwater we call the USA I'd have expected it.

[–] randon31415@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago

That's a shame. I thought Ukraine was leaning more towards inclusion. Russia is invading your country and you are waisting time on this? Odesa is like an hour away from Kherson and...

Oh, Odessa Texas. Ya, I can see a backwater place like that doing something like this.

Who is checking genitalia before going to poop?

Some sort of poo-poo po-po?

[–] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And who is assigning the gender at birth? Clearly it isn't obvious if it has to be "assigned."

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Someone has to be the one to write it down.

But I wonder why it needs to be recorded at all. Selective service enrollment?

I'm AFAB, cisgendered/feminine af, and I've used so many all-gendered bathrooms. With men. "Manly men", even! They were going pee in a urinal while I was peeing in a stall! At the same time! (This was on a very LGBTQ+ friendly cruise at the time, and only one bathroom on each floor had gender designations for those who really couldnt wrap their minds around the concept). Additionally, in the hipster areas of my major metro area, a lot of the cool bars/restaurants are all gendered as well!

Guess how many times Ive been raped/assaulted/harassed in a bathroom? Guess, Texas? Ill give you a hint: It was zero. Zero times.

Fuck, I hate this state.

I remember arguing with dipshits the last time this was a hot topic. Their lame arguments basically boiled down to "think of the children" as if the only reason people were using a particular restroom was they were perverts spying on women.

First, obviously this isn't true. Not even a little bit.

Second, even IF it were true, which I remind you, it isn't, wouldn't a better solution be to allow either parent to accompany the child to the restroom?

"What if a pervert follows my daughter into the bathroom?" "Okay, so you want to make it illegal for you to go in with her?"

And let's not forget that this is unenforcable to begin with. What, are they going to require ID check? Make you present your birth certificate? Have you pull down your pants before you can enter? FFS due to a clerical error my ID mistakenly said I was female for a time. I would've been legally required to use female restrooms.

The town of Uvalde overwhelmingly voted Republican again following their tragedy. Texas has been GOP controlled for ~28 years. I'm not really sure what else there is to say.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Why is Texas so afraid of people seeing other people's dicks or pussies when they just need to piss and shit?

Gotta be Sushi Glory Hole. Imagine that?
