I tap your mother's sultry text messages and end my turn

when i pullout the +4 uno card

[–] eldain@feddit.nl 1 points 4 weeks ago

I retaliate with the knight card from Catan and place the robber on your deck of cards so you can't access your "resources" until you roll a 7.

[–] godfilma@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Wouldn't that be pretty beneficial for your opponent in most trading card games?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

when you deck out in magic you lose the game though.

[–] ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago

you're not going to deck yourself from 4 extra cards, but you are going to have access to 4 extra cards

Thing is, Pot of Greed doesn't even come close to the kind of card draw you can get in MTG. Try Necropotence on for size.

[–] AEsheron@lemmy.world 0 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's value is still great though because it costs nothing. Every time you draw it you may as well have just drew 3 cards, for absolutely nothing.

If it was actually priced at 0 mana, yes, it would be an unbelievably strong card. It only puts you up 1 in terms of card advantage, but it cycles your deck quickly which is very powerful. Basically a better Gitaxian Probe, minus the hand information. If a card like that existed in Magic, it would be an auto-include in every deck. OTOH if I'm casting a spell to tutor up a card from outside my deck, +1 card advantage is the last thing I'm hunting for at that point. Griselbrand let's me draw seven any time I like as long as I have the life for it. Necropotence or Yawgmoth's Bargain let me draw basically my entire deck under the right circumstances. If I'm looking to storm off or something, that's the kind of card draw I need.

We OG players asked all these questions with the Ring of Ma'rûf

And yes, you can get any card (say a Jyhad vampire) into your hand, but we hadn't figured out how to get it into play.

A clever use for it at the time was to bring in a powerful but reasonable custom made card (preferably one with novel, interesting effects) and then cast that. This was especially cool at the time since this was before Tempest. Power creep was not yet noticeable and they hadn't gotten in to the really wild mechanics of the later expansions.

I play the white werewolf with the intention to eat my opponent at night.

[–] chumbalumber@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Hey baby, are you a werewolf? Because I want you to

#eat me

Edit: aw, # no make things big :(

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Try putting a space between the octothorp and the text.

To play a card in M:TG it must have either the Land type, a mana cost, or some other means of casting it explicitly described in the card text.

Since this spell only puts the card in your hand, congratulations, you now have a useless card that you can't cast.

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 weeks ago

What’s the consensus on the rules of the game for the chosen card?

Would a Cards Against Humanity black card, which does not require mana to play, be playable? Would other players have to ‘respond’ with a card from their hand?

If you get multiple of these (or recall from graveyard) can you play the card if you also bring in the activation mana/cost whatever?

Is mana equitable across games? If you pull a card from a game that uses the same color mana as your deck, can you play the card? (For example, the game Not Enough Mana uses blue mana that is represented by a water drop.)

[–] evidences@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The real issue isn't that the card would have a way to cast it there's in game ways around that with stuff like cascade.

So assuming you have a way to cast a card with no mana value whatever card would go on the stack and do nothing then just enter your graveyard, probably. That being said I'm no judge.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Cascade would require the card to go into your deck, not your hand. More likely you'd have to get into your graveyard using something like dredge or One With Nothing, and then use some kind of resurrection spell to put it in play. But then you'd have to deal with the fact that most resurrection spells target a specific type, like "creature".

[–] evidences@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah I was just using cascade as an example, plus there's definitely ways to get a card from your hand into your deck. Cascade was just the first way I could think to cast an "uncastable" spell.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 1 points 4 weeks ago

The card it put into my hand specifically says it is costless and it also just automatically wins the game.

(I specifically made my own TCG for the express purpose of this card to be used with Absurd Wish in MTG)

These joke Calvinball Magic sets are getting out of hand.

Use Solemn Wishes from Yu-Gi-Oh and become invincible because nothing in Magic can do 500 dmg

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago

Two problems:

  1. Solemn Wishes doesn't have a mana cost, so it can't be cast. Cards without costs aren't free in Magic, they're actually uncastable by normal means.

  2. LP isn't health in Magic. It's called Life. So yeah, you'd gain 500 LP, which would be some kind of spendable currency like energy, but you'd have nothing to spend it on, and it wouldn't do anything to your life total.

Yes, I am really fun at parties.

[–] No_Change_Just_Money@feddit.de 1 points 4 weeks ago

How would my opponent know if I actually own the card?

Sounds exploitable

[–] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 weeks ago

Ace of spades, baby! Oh, wait...

[–] NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee 1 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Okay, so I have, in the worst case scenario, 5 turns for you to pull all 5 pieces of Exodia, The Forbidden One.

3/4 if you have the means to play Exodia, The True Forbidden One, and get it onto my field.

But Whimsicott is a grass type. This means if you delay to a 6 turn play, you're walling anything Blue or otherwise Water related.

.... Fuck it, Blue Eyes White Dragon.

[–] Taako_Tuesday@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

You could just get one-star yu-gi-oh card and boom, you've got a 1000/1000 that you can play without tapping anything. Unless your opponent has removal or something, you're winning as soon as it can attack

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago

In Magic, if a card doesn't have a mana cost, it cannot be cast by normal means. Since you only get add the outside card to your hand, not put it into play, you now have absolutely no way of playing it. That 1000/1000 is stuck in your hand.

Yeah, but it doesn't have trample, and my mob of 1/1 goblins can slow it down for quite a while.

https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=wish

If this plays like wish it means you have to put the blue eyes white dragon in your sideboard in order to play it during competitive play

Of course this card would be allowed in competitive play but I think the idea of putting a blue eyes white dragon in your sideboard is very funny

[–] DaCrazyJamez@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago

I have a lawyers business card in my desk, that could make this game very interesting...

[–] Zehzin@lemmy.world 0 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I notice the card doesn't mention it has to be a MtG card

[–] caden@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

In fact, if you read it, it specifically says it can't be...

[–] Zehzin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

Oh, I read Magic as in Spell. I'm booboo the fool
