Good on NPR and the effort to fact check that dumpster fire must have been exhausting, but the damage is already done. No would-be Trump voter is going to read this and change their mind on anything. The only thing that could make a difference is live fact checking and calling Trump out as he makes the statements.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 52 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They think NPR is state run and operated deep state propaganda

[–] Godort@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago

Well obviously that sub-1% revenue they get from places like the board of education means that the state has a controlling share, right?

[–] pearsaltchocolatebar@discuss.online 25 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They don't care that he's lying. Doing it in real time would make absolutely no difference

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

To his base, no. His base is lost for the world bar some extremely large scale cult-deprogramming. But for independents and undecideds it would still matter to not let the lies linger in the air. Not that it will ever happen, of course.

[–] pearsaltchocolatebar@discuss.online 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The comment I replied to was specifically talking about his base.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You replied to my comment, though? That's why I clarified.

EDIT: I concede I might have worded it poorly. What I meant was: his base isn't going to change his mind regardless and few undecideds/independents will read this. But live fact-checking and calling Trump out properly could affect the latter group.

~~They~~ His base don't care that he's lying. Doing it in real time would make absolutely no difference

Would've been clearer if you specified your comment.

I agree his base is a lost cause, but live fact checking would absolutely make a difference to the uneducated brain rotted masses that are just going with the flow.

Calling him out as a lair to his face live on the air might even make him snap. Sadly no one has the balls to do it.

[–] ArbiterXero@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

And that’s terrifying

[–] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Every news channel must display his lies count and lies-per-minute of speech (lie rate) whenever they broadcast his campaign coverage. That should be the bare minimum standard

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What, do you want us to run out of numbers?

[–] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Make it a counter like “ObAmA NaTioNAL DeBT CoUNteR” and display/project it on wall behind Trump at his own rally

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Haven't read this because "water is wet"....but was the only thing he said that was true was "the"...

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 11 points 1 month ago

Back in 2016 I got into it online with a MAGoo. Trump had just plead guilty to defrauding people with Trump University. The MAGoo said that it was the fault of the students for not reading the terms and conditions properly. They really thought Trump was on their side. The lies don't matter because he's 'their guy.'

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 1 month ago

I started to peruse the list and was burned out by number ten. I already know he lies with nearly every sentence. My time is more valuable than that. Although the stat that it was nearly two lies per minute was helpful in terms of quantifying what we already knew.

[–] workerONE@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

They need to do this in real time as he's trying to talk.

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Wouldn’t it be easier to truth check rather than fact check. The owner of truth social has said zero truths this speech. Same as last speech

The party of fiscal responsibility that constantly grows our national debt every time they are in office

The party of Lincoln that actively works to make life harder for minorities

The party of pro-life that stops caring about the child once it leaves the womb

The party of 'child protectors' with a ridiculous number of convicted child molesters sitting in high government positions

I'm beginning to thing that these repugnicans might not be very honest...
