Gosh, I wonder which party he's affiliated with?

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Did you find out yet? Were your assumptions right?

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 18 points 1 month ago

Yes, and yes.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I'm honestly surprised it's just campaign finance and not another kid diddler or a scandal about what (weird, but) consenting adults did in an airport bathroom.

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

This is just what he was caught doing. Doesn't mean that other stuff isn't happening.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 45 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Another weird bastard committing a crime.

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago

He's just auditioning for a SCOTUS nomination.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's amazing how both parties are exactly the same and do this stuff, amiright?

That's because the deep state commie librul law enforcement won't attack Democrats, duh! Because as we all know, LEOs are universally not conservatives, right?

[–] modifier@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Let's don't get too haughty too hasty.

Senator Menendez finally resigned like last week.

Also, Chicago. Just, Chicago. And I say that as a resident and major booster of this wonderful city. But the corruption is real.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There's a difference, though. When the Democrats get a Menendez - or a Blagojevich, or a Weiner - they don't go to the ends of the Earth to insulate them from the consequences of their actions. Menendez was already persona non grata by the time he finally resigned, and no one would come to his defense.

I don't disagree with you. When they get caught, they are more likely to face consequences. I'm not saying there aren't major differences, just that those differences are a bit less stark when it comes to finances.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Only if you ignore everything other than the base crime itself.

They may both commit the same crime, but the cover up is always worse than the crime, and we've got a cover up party that could easily rival the cosmetics industry.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

except we've stopped seeing republicans even resign for things. The news broke that trump may be guilty of a nearly identical crime and its unlikely he'll resign in disgrace.

Santos is now facing a criminal indictment that accuses him of reporting non-existent personal loans to his campaign in order to be eligible for other campaign contributions.

For anyone who didn’t want to read the article

Edit: quoted the wrong part, lol. Read below for the better quote

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

thats where they mention santos, but for the meat of ogles controversy:

Despite having reported making the $320,000 personal loan, Ogles' personal financial disclosures did not show any substantial investments — not even a savings account.

[–] loie@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Lmao fucking amateur

No not even amateur, an amateur would at least have his wife buy a car wash or some bullshit

Media Bias Fact Check | bot support

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have seen this bot around few a few weeks, and while the theoretical concept is good, it can't work in reality.

Someone has to define what bias a news source has, and they has their own biases, this bot will only serve to confuse and misslead uninformed users.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

if you don't like it, feel free to block it

also, it's been 9 days, not "a few weeks"-- although the past 9 days sure as hell feels like a few weeks...

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The past 9 days have been the longest month of my past 5 millennia that I've always been alive till the end of existence

[–] kat_angstrom@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fascinating. Assuming that you have in fact been alive for +5000 years, what's your secret to longevity?

[–] ChihuahuaOfDoom@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)
[–] Chef_Boyargee@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I must be doing it wrong. I can only see into the future after one of those.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Exactly. Brewing coffee from enema water

[–] ChihuahuaOfDoom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's enema coffee, they are related in that you need one to make the other but not the same thing. In future, philosophers may ask us "what came first, the enema or the coffee?"

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

A bit o' coffee enema coffee, if you will

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you don't like it, feel free to block it

I will do so shortly, but wanted to raise the issue before since it might be spreading missinformation.

also, it's been 9 days, not "a few weeks"-- although the past 9 days sure as hell feels like a few weeks...

Fair point, I'll assume you are the person running the bot, so you probably knows more about it than me. I am and was tired when I wrote that, and didn't doublecheck.

I have raised the issue I wanted to, and I'll block the bot in a few minutes, one word of advice would be to reword the comment to say something like "The current reputation of Generic_News seems to lean toward it being generic", so the bot makes less absolute statements.

Anyway, I am off to bed to sleep and possibly dream about terminating speaker wires.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

i don't run the bot, nor do i have any connection to whomever does. i just don't get this "i disagree, therefore i must be disinformation!" attitude, especially since i haven't seen any compelling evidence to support such a claim, especially your specific accusation, "since it might be spreading missinformation."

just block it and move on

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I never said that I disagreed with the bot, I said that it is pretending to be unbiased, which is impossible since a human created the list of definitions it uses.

[–] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

It lists ap news as left center, so clearly it's accurate because reality has a liberal bias.
