this is how he operates.. he denies, then jokes, then encourages others to joke, then when they do he gets serious, then act like everyone was always serious.

this man will NEVER willingly give up a shred of power.

[–] Neverclear@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 6 days ago

....to shreds it is, then.

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 48 points 6 days ago

Does everyone remember during Trump's first presidency, President Xi had just made himself president for life. Trump brought this up at a rally and said "maybe we should try that" and the crowd cheered. It was never a joke. Everything he says is testing the waters to see what reaction he'll get. Now there's a group trying to get him elected to a 3rd term. I think a Republican congressman or two is also pushing for this.

"Rewrite the rules" is a clear campaign slogan.

This is a HARD line for me. This fucker doesn't get to run again.

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Hopefully also literally unable to run

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 4 points 6 days ago

He wasn't able this time either. 14th amendment.

[–] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 days ago

You think he's currently able to run? If so I have a medical report you'll love to see.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 6 days ago

As an adjudicated insurrectionist, he's disqualified under the 14th amendment from holding his office. We're already past that line.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 3 points 6 days ago

Well, running for president isn't really running if the result is already fixed. So you have that going for you.

[–] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 47 points 6 days ago (1 children)

He said he’d do this. Why are any USAians surprised?

[–] podperson@lemm.ee 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I’m glad to see “Americans” getting used less for obvious reasons, but every time I see that written I read it as “us asians”.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] Brandonazz@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Well, Statians, but pronounced the same as stations.

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 34 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Modify them to read ‘Trump: 1946 - 2028’.

[–] choab@discuss.online 11 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

made this

*this is not real, I shopped it

[–] gabbath@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

"See?! Libs want a dictator too!!!!11"

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Please don't, I would buy them and finance Trump :(

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Where did I suggest purchasing anything?

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 4 points 6 days ago

You really are a genius, i wasn't sure before.

[–] coherent_domain@infosec.pub 22 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] kbal@fedia.io 30 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Turns out it's nowhere near as complicated as everyone said it would be to change the constitution. All you've got to do is buy yourself a Supreme Court.

[–] suicidaleggroll@lemm.ee 32 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Nah, turns out you don't actually have to change it at all. If nobody is willing to enforce the rules laid out in the Constitution, then it's just a worthless scrap of paper that means nothing. He can just do whatever he wants now, nothing matters.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 14 points 6 days ago

Every child knows a rule only counts if a) you're caught breaking them and b) you're punished for breaking them.b

[–] ragepaw@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 days ago

He's just ignoring it anyway.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

and ignore them because they're incapable of enforcing anything. Turns out half of our representatives are nazis and the other half are spineless cowards.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

They're not cowards.

They're collaborators, getting rich off it just as much as the others.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The Supreme Court has often stood against him and is now. He thought he could buy them, you thought he could buy them, they don't agree with either of you.

[–] kbal@fedia.io 5 points 6 days ago

Long may I continue to be proven wrong.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I can't think of a comment to make here that won't get me investigated by this Secret Service

[–] AbraKadabra1993@reddthat.com 5 points 5 days ago

Step up your op sec and speak freely :)

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm not protesting now, cuz laziness, but you better belive I'm burning shit if he wants ro run again

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

He wants to run again, but really, he wants to not need to run at all. Just dictator for life, which is probably not very long considering his age and health. Putin is his model for how "free and fair" elections should go.

I have faith that our Constitution will weather this and also no Republican will sit in the oval office in 2028.

[–] Civil_Liberty@lemm.ee 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I have thought to myself for a long time.. what would happen once people started putting up Trump 2028 flags in their yards? What would happen if those houses started burning down as a result?

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 5 points 6 days ago

I mean, at LEAST throw a handful of pocket salt on their yard each time that you walk by.

Maybe find out their names and give generic complaints to their employers.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

I guess Trump merch is exempted from the tariffs?

[–] DirkMcCallahan@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago

Susan Collins is very concerned.

[–] endeavor@sopuli.xyz 9 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Waiting for the merch commemorating members of the public stringing everyone in the administration up.

[–] BenjiRenji 9 points 6 days ago

Even if he isn't going to run, why would he not try to sell such hats and t-shirts? It's money in the bank.

[–] choab@discuss.online 8 points 6 days ago
[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 days ago

ok he's serious.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 6 points 6 days ago

It's pitchforks and guillotines time.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

He may be old, but mentally and emotionally he is like a child.

[–] AbraKadabra1993@reddthat.com 2 points 5 days ago

Maybe its for Trump Jr? I think we all know its not, but maybe?

[–] roserose56@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

I saw this interesting video, and there are not lots of ways for him to run in 2028.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Given his tanking popularity, he might be better off ordering the Trump 2032 hats alongside this and get a bulk discount.

[–] smokingpistol@lemm.ee 1 points 6 days ago

Eric Trump 2028? lol
