Fediverse vs Disinformation

395 readers
82 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Obviously it’s not true.

But -

Why is it shameful to have been an escort?

I’d like the Rs to answer that instead, as well as:

  • Why is it shameful that people who have vaginas need tampons?
  • Why is it acceptable to denigrate women who haven’t physically had children - no matter what the reason for that is? (The reason is no one’s business)
  • Why is it acceptable to attack women who haven’t borne children and then deny IVF to the women who actually want to have them?
  • Why is it acceptable to let the women who are trying to have children die or risk disability or risk infertility if they have a miscarriage for lack of access to abortion care? (Abortion is the treatment for miscarriage)
  • Why do all of these chuds find it hilarious when they dress in the shittiest drag on the face of the planet, but want to ban talented artists from performing drag?

All of the answers seem to be that unless you fit the very narrow minded definition of what these people “deem” to be a “woman,” you should be shamed, abused and punished.

It seems to me that they don’t regard women or trans people as people with their own self determination, but instead as property or “less than” to be controlled and abused and punished as they see fit.

Oh they “let” R women have high profile jobs but they need to be either rich/powerful enough that they don’t dare try to denigrate them (see: Devos, Thomas) or completely compliant with whatever crazy direction the Heritage Society/Trump/Fundamentalist Christianity dictates.

Let’s not forget Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife Becky. It’s ok for her to go bang a pool boy outside the confines of “godly marriage” but only because that’s what HE wanted and only because it was secret. All of the students at Liberty University could barely date or talk to the opposite sex.

I’m so tired of the hypocrisy. Neighbours, you gotta get your house in order. It bleeds up here to Canada and now we have to deal with our own psychopaths who have been taking notes.

It does feel that the only way Canada will improve again is if the US starts being better than Canada, removing our excuse of, "At least we're not as bad as the US!"

...if the US starts being better than Canada, removing our excuse of, "At least we're not as bad as the US!"

Dude, don't fucking tell them! Now our well hidden favourite pastime is out in the open.

I think the answer for all of that is they are sensitive little fucking snowflakes and everything you listed hurts their little feelings

Why is it shameful to have been an escort?

Everything that is illegal is immoral.

I guess they are targeting the uptight religious fundamentalist demographic. I think for most Democrats, it wouldn't be a problem, even if it was true.
