I am very confused by the description. How is the son the record holder if he only won silver?

Olympic record is different than world record. He's done a longer throw at a different event.
He holds the world record (at any official event)
He broke the Olympics record (at the Olympics only) held by his father
The Olympics record was then beaten by someone else
The Olympics record is lower than the world record so he still holds the world record

Not all world records are necessarily performed in the Olympics, although that happens a lot due to the nature of the event
