No Stupid Questions

Assuming I’ve got a website hosted on GitHub via Cloudflare with a custom domain. How different would it be to host the same site with a .onion address?

EDIT: I’ve had a few drinks so hopefully this isn’t too bad or at least makes sense.

Came across the above link (view in Desktop mode) claiming to be an article from 1990 saying that Robert Maxwell not only intervened with these children, they put them on his plane. I was trying to find more information and stumbled on this link after reading the below article which said that Maxwell "may also have helped Jews get out of Romania in the 1980s."

It struck me at the time, with how many similarities Robert Maxwell had to Epstein ...including a love of Ghilsaine, huge financial fraud concerns, and a death that many think could have been murder. And how many people who fight trafficking end up as human traffickers themselves because it allowed them access to victims. It's just so strange that THAT man would have access to these victim networks, and that it would be so difficult to find since he allegedly was doing a good thing, right? It's not even in his obituary in the Time from 1991. But that's some Nobel Peace prize stuff, right? So why is it so hard to find except in passing mentions in articles?

It would be interesting if he really was human trafficking those kids, and it would mean that Ghilsaine wasn't likely recruited by Epstein after her father died, but rather she recruited him to continue her work.

Maxwell told the 2016 deposition that after Epstein was jailed she continued to occasionally work at his properties and kept her ties with him.

Maybe she was loyal to him because he was her employee.

According to Forbes, Maxwell and Epstein met through her father, convicted fraudster and tabloid king, Robert Maxwell. The pair was introduced as early as 1988, with Robert Maxwell reportedly providing funds for Epstein.

The claim that Robert Maxwell introduced his beloved daughter to Epstein comes from a convicted Ponzi schemer who had dealings with the men, according to Distractify. Other sources have Ghislaine Maxwell meeting Epstein through mutual friends around 1991, the year when Robert Maxwell died after suffering a heart attack and drowning.

Finding out how those two met is likewise quite difficult, which is crazy since both of them went through several trials detailing their crimes. The Forbes article even notes that its likely they knew each other before Robert's death because of a photo of them together around 19 days after he died.

I'm just a regular person making about $70K a year in a big city, and I've recently felt incredibly powerless dealing with private companies. For instance, my landlord’s auto-pay system had a glitch that excluded my pet rent and water bill. I ended up with over $1,000 in late fees. Despite hours on the phone, it turns out their system doesn’t really do auto-pay and requires a fixed amount instead of covering the full rent. It feels like a scam, and my options are to pay the fees or potentially spend a fortune on legal action.

Another frustrating experience was trying to cancel my pest control service. I had to endure a 40-minute call followed by 35 minutes of arguing, just to finally cancel. There’s no online cancellation option, and the process felt like a timeshare sales pitch.

Why do ordinary people seem so unprotected against these shady practices, and how can we change this? How does one person even start to address these issues?

In this alternate universe school is completely funded by the government and housing is included.

Do people trust Ghidra? How come it's been developed by the NSA? From an outsider perspective, that sounds so weird!

Forgive me but this part of the open source and foss confuses me. If you code and release an open source and free piece of software like say, a robust video player such as VLC, how is that dev being paid?

Because in my eyes (I'm not too privy to FOSS ins and outs)

I'm basically getting your software for free of no charge, it IS free as in free beer cos you're not asking ME to pay it for so who is paying YOU?

Does it come via donations or wealthy corporations like Red Hat and Microsoft pay or fund open sourced projects that is given to the hard working developers of that OSS/FOSS project?

Would Starlink and other satellite ISP's be able to mitigate some of the traffic?

I am not a tech person, but I cleaned out my secondhand PC today, and it took hours with the sheer amount of dust accumulation. The fans were nearly overloaded with it!!

Does a clean PC run better / faster than one filled with dust? Or is it more a matter of keeping the fans running easily? Or something else..? Idk, maybe I imagined it, but it seemed to boot much faster after cleaning. Could be wishful thinking!

I asked someone this question before and they said it was a really stupid question and I'm not sure why so thought I would ask it here...

What's going to happen when AI becomes really advanced? Is there a plan for what all of the displaced people are going to do? Like for example administrative assistance, receptionist, cashiers, office workers, White collar people. Is there going to be some sort of retraining program of some sort to get people cross-trained into other careers like nursing or other careers that have not yet been automated? Or are people just going to lose their homes, be evicted and is there going to be like some sort of mass eviction and homelessness downstream effect because people can't find any work?

By "good" I mean code that is written professionally and concisely (and obviously works as intended). Apart from personal interest and understanding what the machine spits out, is there any legit reason anyone should learn advanced coding techniques? Specifically in an engineering perspective?

If not, learning how to write code seems a tad trivial now.

If we consider information to be safe if we encrypt it (e.g., text in a file, encrypted with modern strong encryption), would it be safer (as in harder to crack) if we then encrypted the encrypted file, and encrypted the encrypted^2 file, etc.? Is this what strong encryption already does behind the scenes?

I’m interested in helping friends tell the difference between fact and fiction, truth and hearsay and general stuff like that that gives peace of mind that they can defend themselves from gaslighting, makes life easier to live, and harder to be taken advantage of by propaganda. Just a few examples.

Here's my use case in more detail

I have a laptop and a PC, with the laptop connecting to one of my 2 monitors via an HDMI splitter. This allows me to use my PC on both screens most of the time, but then quickly switch one monitor to show the laptop, when required.

Only thing is that doing that causes all PC windows* on Screen 2 to jump to Screen 1, while Screen 2 now shows the laptop's windows. That's fine, and I get why it does that (effectively the PC thinks I've disconnected Screen 2).

* (usually it's a bunch of Chrome windows, 5-7 of them - for work/multi-client reasons this works best for me and my PC handles it fine)

When I switch the HDMI splitter back, all PC windows remain on Screen 1, while Screen 2 is once again showing my PC desktop, but with no windows. Ideally all windows would flip back to where they were before, but I don't think there's a way to do this, and again, that's fine.

My next preferred option is to be able to able to move all Chrome windows over from Screen 1 to Screen 2 quickly - and this is what I'm looking for advice on. I can't seem to find a way to "select" all/multiple Chrome windows and shift them to Screen 2, but it feels like there must be a way?

Any help greatly appreciated :-)

Now, I never created an onlyfans account, but today I got two emails from them: one asking to confirm an email account, and one confirming its cancellation. Was that a hack going around or just bad luck on my end? I already changed passwords and everything, just wondering if anyone else had a problem like this.

I have several tapes (yes actual cassette tapes) of my grandfather reading a novel.

Unfortunately a few of the tapes have degraded to the point that I cannot play them back.

I would love to recreate his voice, to "rerecord" the missing bits.

The recordings are in Danish.

Is this possible?

If it is, how can I go about it?
