This is for the tag on your keys or some other EDC item. If you're carrying it with you all the time anyway, why not add extra functionality? The ring tag I have on my keys allows me to ring my phone if I lost it, it's similar to that.

I don't see why one failed product would do that when everything else is still amazingly profitable. They can afford to take risks with a product, and they actually should try to expand outside of phones and computers.

I've caught a few, usually the email gets leaked in a data breach (ie. Adobe got breached a while back, so I just block all email to adobe@mydomain.tld). Surprisingly I don't really catch a lot of companies reselling mailing lists, it's mostly data breaches that you can find on haveibeenpwned.
