I know someone who's literally making that right now. Remind me in a week, I'll send you the link. He'll probably be done by then.

Was cell seeking out to destroy the earth? Or hurt people?

I know he absorbed people to reach his perfect form. But it seemed that was all he wanted. Was cell planning to do anything evil after reaching perfect form?

I'm looking into hosting one of these for the first time. From my limited research, XMPP seems to win in every way, which makes me think I must be missing something. Matrix is almost always mentioned as the de-facto standard, but I rarely saw arguments why it is better than XMPP?

Xmpp seems way easier to host, requiring less resources, has many more options for clients, and is simpler and thus easier to manage and reason about when something goes wrong.

So what's the deal?

it seems ridiculous that we have to embed an entire browser, meant for internet web browsing, just to create a cross-platform UI with moderate ease.

Why are native or semi-native UI frameworks lagging so far behind? am I wrong in thinking this? are there easier, declarative frameworks for creating semi-native UIs on desktop that don't look like windows 1998?

Most music videos, especially modern ones, are pretty boring.

EDIT: based on another commenter, OP's claim isn't even factual.

And it took the US until 1996 (after fall of USSR)? Not to mention that it was capitalism (General Motors) that spread the hoax about leaded gasoline being safe, under the guise of scientific research in 1921.

This is not the gotcha you think it is.

iOS is fully proprietary, so while some might argue that it is more private, it is almost impossible to know. What we do know is that it isn't private, and apple has a track record against privacy.

I think comparing the two platforms from a privacy perspective is pointless. You're not going to be private either way. Might as well focus on other factors.

It seems that around July 15th, the repo for Barinsta, the FOSS instagram frontend that was abandoned about 1-2 years ago has been taken down.

The repo was hosted on codeberg, after the original author took the github repo down. The second maintainer moved the repo to codeberg, but it seems little was done to maintain it. The second maintainer seems to have deleted previous blog posts about barinsta as well.

I have the repo backed up locally (hence why I noticed), but it does not work in its current state.

Its probably not worth using instagram anyways

I've been using geometric weather, but wondering if people have other options for weather apps.

Widgets aren't necessary

I suppose this may make sense in the case of something like Mastodon. But something as versatile and customizable as lemmy, which allows for the existence of separate topic-based communities, makes topic-based instances of lemmy not necessary.

Instead of making a new instance for a certain topic, it is usually a much better approach to just create a new community on my current lemmy instance. At least from my perspective as a user.

I find the only exception to this is censorship and moderation. If I, for any reason am unhappy with an instance's moderation and censorship, then that is the only potential reason I can see to change and make my own.

What does everyone else think of this?
