It can be bad. I also have this superpower, I can pop my ears (open my eustachian tubes) by flexing my throat muscles. The bad part comes when this happens on its own over and over and makes me dizzy. Thankfully that's only happened twice, but once was almost a whole day. I pop my ears much less now to try and avoid overdoing it.

I did the ride across Indiana (RAIN), 160 was tough but doable. Lots of training and preparation. I didn't have to contend with the dark and lack of sleep though.

If altitude is portrayed I don't see it. I think this map is purely to show borders/adjacency without consideration of size and only vague consideration of location. Size kinda sorta correlates with the number of adjacent countries but also seems a bit arbitrary.

It has been interesting. I wanted to teach at university so I went straight into a PhD program after my 4 year engineering degree. Found out that being a professor, at least at an ivy league school, was 10% teaching and 90% funding and politics, also did not mesh well with available projects and support, dropped out with "half a PhD". Worked 12 years at steel mills, the first one sucked but I learned a lot, the second one really developed me into who I am now from an entrepreneurial and leadership POV. Went to business school at night and simultaneously got a Manager job at a shitty company, got fired, got an engineer job elsewhere and quickly promoted to manager where I rocked the house. Left for a senior engineer role elsewhere with better pay and work life balance and I am loving it so far.

Lots of luck, lots of effort, lots of learning through failure and success. Best thing I did was probably business school. The engineering degree is what gets me in the door but the tools I learned in getting my MBA have proven more valuable because most of the problems I need to solve are not exclusively engineering problems.

It was really weird to go from a high performer at one company to getting fired at the next. Thankfully I've had two great experiences since then, so I guess it was probably them not me. Getting fired messed with my concept of self worth for a bit but I have worked through that now.

After our last cat had kidney issues, new cat gets wet food daily. We basically go 50/50, half wet food half dry food. That works out to half a 5oz can a day, 1/4 in morning and 1/4 in evening. She normally eats the wet food within ~15 minutes and nibbles the dry food throughout the day. Not sure if it helps her kidneys but she has maintained a good weight and has the softest coat.

We also use a water fountain to try to encourage drinking, but I don't think she drinks any extra because of it.

My cars are named after the pokemon they most closely resemble. Ferroseed and Snorlax. They each have a sticker of said pokemon.

Music is subjective, I like some of the albums you listed, but I agree that the 1001 list is trash full of terrible albums. I made it through 142 before giving up.

Pics to come tomorrow. This is a recipe I got from someone at r/smoking years ago and has been my go-to ever since. I usually brush half the pieces with maple and half I leave alone. The ones without maple have a smokier taste and are a tad crustier, a taste and texture I prefer for smoked salmon. I often brine overnight, rack the fish on the counter and use a fan to form a pellicle while the smoker is heating up. Takes roughly six hours to cook at the low temp smoke setting on my pellet grill.

Recipes: Thaw fillets, remove skin, cut the fillets lengthwise right down the middle and cut these strips into 7" or 8" lengths (usually 1/3 of the length of the fillet).

Brine: Put 1/2 quart of apple juice in a pot on the stove, bringing to low boil & then down to simmer. Add to this; 6 ounces of soy sauce 1/2 cup of non-iodized salt 1/2 cup of brown sugar 1/2 tsp of Garlic powder 1/2 tsp of Onion powder 1/2 tsp of Cayenne pepper 1/2 tsp of Dried Bay Leaf Flakes (or 2 or 3 fresh bay leaves)

Stir until salt is dissolved. Then add 1 1/2 quarts of water & ice to cool quickly.

Leave the Salmon pieces submerged in this brine for 4 hours (under 1/2") to 6 hours (over 1/2")

Dry the salmon and put on rack in fridge overnight to form a pellicle.

Smoke on low until internal temp reaches 145+. Brush with maple syrup once an hour to keep moist.

Edit: and here's a progress pic. Peppered on the left, maple on the right. Finished product looked very similar but a bit darker. Taste and texture were great. Funnily, the maple finished first despite getting brushed hourly.
