If this is gearing towards a referendum vote to separate from Canada, this will be this single dumbest thing the province has ever done.

So you mean to tell me Alberta would be better off with the people that shrugged Danielle off after all her effort to negotiate? That the province would somehow be able to magically do what it wants as a separate entity from Canada? I love when I'm a landlocked nation and need to ship my resources through foreign countries in order to get it to buyers.

Idiots. Fucking idiots.

Oh, that's my bad, it's really one idea. I meant I would be compiling games not yet available on GOG that one can vote for on the Dreamlist.

It's hard to move away from Steam and find replacements for it that aren't based in America. Epic Games Store? American. ZOOM Platform? American. Itch? Unfortunately American.

However, there are two decent alternatives that aren't based in America, those being GOG.com, which is based in Poland, and FireFlower Games, a much smaller vendor based in Sweden.

While both stores are without a doubt magnitudes smaller than Steam, both can be contributed to with your help. With an account on GOG, one can vote for games to be added to GOG using GOG Dreamlist. While of course voting for games to be added to GOG via GOG Dreamlist doesn't guarantee their addition to the platform, it definitely helps developers take notice that there is a demand for their game on the platform should they see their game receive a larger amount of votes.

While FireFlower Games, being much smaller and catered to indie games, doesn't have an equivalent feature, one can reach out to game developers to have their games added to both platforms. Both FireFlower Games and GOG embrace the nature of DRM-free games, meaning that unlike Steam, games are 100% owned by the purchaser without the need of a third party.

I've been thinking about making a list of Canadian games not yet available on GOG, and creating a Megathread of games that can be voted for on GOG Dreamlist. Please let me know if y'all enjoy the idea, and depending on community feedback I'll either go ahead in building a list, or step back from the idea entirely.

The small island province in the Atlantic gets some recognition in this post with Charlottetown band Lefunk's single "Reflection"!

The instrumentals and smooth vocals of this track are sure to get anybody dancing!

Folks it's not enough to just vote if you want actual, legitimate change. Register for the party that aligns with you most, and get your boots on the ground by volunteering, attending events, and becoming a registered party member.

People are crazy if they think the average person is alright with this.

Ah yes, the real boogeymen of the world on their way to kidnap you for your opinions. Firefighters.

Come on man, you could have at least made this somewhat believable by saying cops instead.

My reasoning for doing so in the community I mention is just because it's a music community, and I really don't want new people to the community getting the impression that they and their music tastes aren't welcome, especially if the downvotes are coming from people blanket downvoting their All feed rather than from community members themselves.

This would likely just be with people I see who have a history of doing this according to modlogs, and not with regular users who happen to downvote a post.

Giving the thread a read, thanks!

If you're a moderator of a community on Lemmy, you can view the upvotes and downvotes on posts for what I assume to be moderation reasons.

I don't think it's always hidden data and more dependent on the fedi software you use, since I do remember people a while ago getting upset with Kbin and their public upvotes and downvotes.

I have a community, and because it's generally not really one where controversy comes up, as a mod and creator of the community I do like to check where downvotes on posts are coming from.

I came across this one user where, according to modlogs, they seem to have had a general habit of basically downvoting everything in sight on their feed and unfortunately an otherwise perfectly upvoted post got caught up in the crossfire.

While I don't think banning them from the community will remove that downvote, I also don't want someone like this to be able to interact with the community at all, since it manipulates good-faith post voting, and I'd like to prevent unfair downvotes like this one from appearing in the future.

Issue is with the person is that's all they've done. Vote on the post. No comments in the community or anything, so I can't find any dialogue option to just ban them outright. How would I give this guy the boot?

This one is new to me! Giving it a listen and I love it ha.

Aaron MacDonald is a lovely musician from the beautiful island of Cape Breton! His new song "What's The Point" was released late last month, and comes with this incredibly fun music video!

I came across Aaron from Music Cape Breton, one of the many new resources recently added to the Music Resources Megathread. Please feel free to check out both the site and the rest of Aaron's music library!

Apparently Pierre's campaign has been using Echo Beach without proper consent of Martha and the Muffins. Add this to the Trump similarities list.

Answering my own question, lol, but to throw my own hat in the ring and participate, there used to be this radio station in Edmonton called Capital FM that I would listen to every so often at home and also be the only station my workplace would play over their intercom system. Bunch of classic rock stuff.

I remembering hearing "Go for Soda" and "Patio Lanterns" a tonne those days, and was shocked when I brought it up to some American friends who liked classic rock, and they told me they never heard of either of those songs. Apparently Kim Mitchell isn't that big a name outside Canada.

With CanCon laws for radio broadcasters and the likes, there are certain to be songs we know and adore here in Canada that, when brought up to those in the U.S. or elsewhere overseas, bring a confused shrug on their mention.

When talking about music to others across borders, what song were you surprised to find that reaction to?

I don't listen to a lot of Snotty Nose Rez Kids, frankly their music isn't quite my taste having trying to give their music a chance on multiple occasions.

That said, this is a tragedy, especially considering all the duo has done to put a spotlight on indigenous music on the national stage, and I've always had a great amount of respect for all that they've done and what it symbolises.

Please feel free to donate on their GoFundMe if you wish: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-rbrth-and-snrk-rebuild-after-devastating-fire

Our fourth person to hit the weekly artist spotlight is an artist whom, while currently living in Toronto, hails from Montreal!

Robyn Hayle is a jazz singer with incredibly smooth and pleasant vocals. A natural music talent, she won her first international music competition at the young age of nine! All these years later, and all she has done is simply build on that talent, each album of hers bringing pleasantries to the ears and surprising the listener all whilst soothing them.

Of all the incredible music in Hayle's library, please listen to the below album "So Much For Good Behaviour", as it includes her original songs "But You Do", "Impossible You", and "Summer's Kiss", songs rightfully described on her website as ones likely to be mistaken for classics:

Chief State is a pop-punk band from Vancouver! They recently released The Accoustic EP earlier this month, the latest in a steady line of talent compilations from them.

Check out their website here: https://www.chiefstate.com/

Perhaps a noise warning is in order for this one, but Ninoo is an experimental musician from New Brunswick! This song, ironically titled Calm, is an incredible fast-paced and heavy tune clocking in at just under two minutes.

This was a long time back, but Blahaj Zone defederated with the LemmyNSFW community a while ago since LemmyNSFW had a community by the name of "Adorable Porn", reason being that they thought it was content that appealed to pedophiles and the likes.

The community had some irl pornographic content with cutesy sorta vibes, mainly of petite women. The admins of Blahaj Zone basically demanded LemmyNSFW remove the community, or they would defederate since they thought it was reverse jailbait, adults made to look like minors.

The community description didn't really help at all seeing that it had the term "child-like" there, which is likely what set the spark for the entire interaction, but it was copy-pasted from a dictionary definition. Also pouring fuel on the fire iirc was the fact that the admins of LemmyNSFW have English as their second language, so that might have also gotten in the way of things.

It's been a while since this all happened, but from what I remember they removed "child-like" from the community description, but Blahaj Zone ended up defederating anyway still of the opinion that the community's purpose was to appeal to pedos.

I just remember seeing this all go down cause for a time since I was windowshopping for a new instance to move to, and was using Blahaj Zone's website to check what was posted to 196, and saw it the defederation notice stickied to the homepage.

Had a conversation with Liberal candidate for my riding during her campaign office opening about PR.

Honestly, while it wasn't quite the answer I hoped for, I did appreciate that she didn't beat around the bush with her stance, and it did have me thinking about things. Essentially the gist of her stance was that while she as an individual did think it was a good idea to institute PR, she felt that doing it with the House of Commons might be a huge undertaking that would take time, and that a faster approach would likely be to reform the Senate from being by appointment, to having them represent voters proportional to the vote share.

End of the day it does come to actions in the House of Commons, but seeing that she seemed to be a very genuine and down-to-earth candidate despite her involved political background definitely has my hopes up that there will be movement within the Liberal party to get things shifting in the right direction, even if it takes a little more time than what's preferred.

"Not a tiny selection of them who want to maximize rent seeking".

Ah yes, indigenous people. The greediest people in the country. Get the fuck out of here with your garbage. Human rights are not on the debate table, and you frankly saying they want to "maximize rent" as if they're leeching to profit off the country rather than have a means to reasonably support themselves fiscally is downright disgusting.

If a rich person decided to buy the resources off the indigenous, and they decided it was in their best interest to take the offer, then yeah, while I'd be opposed to the idea of that, it's still their treaty rights to decide for themselves.

Treaty rights are human rights and they are not on the table, and to suggest otherwise in any matter is to ignore the bullshit indigenous people have had to deal with for generations. They are to be included in the conversation because they are quite literally more "Canadian" than anybody else in the country and deserve to have their voices heard and their standard of living raised just as any other person's should be with harvesting our natural resources.
