It's hard to move away from Steam and find replacements for it that aren't based in America. Epic Games Store? American. ZOOM Platform? American. Itch? Unfortunately American.

However, there are two decent alternatives that aren't based in America, those being GOG.com, which is based in Poland, and FireFlower Games, a much smaller vendor based in Sweden.

While both stores are without a doubt magnitudes smaller than Steam, both can be contributed to with your help. With an account on GOG, one can vote for games to be added to GOG using GOG Dreamlist. While of course voting for games to be added to GOG via GOG Dreamlist doesn't guarantee their addition to the platform, it definitely helps developers take notice that there is a demand for their game on the platform should they see their game receive a larger amount of votes.

While FireFlower Games, being much smaller and catered to indie games, doesn't have an equivalent feature, one can reach out to game developers to have their games added to both platforms. Both FireFlower Games and GOG embrace the nature of DRM-free games, meaning that unlike Steam, games are 100% owned by the purchaser without the need of a third party.

I've been thinking about making a list of Canadian games not yet available on GOG, and creating a Megathread of games that can be voted for on GOG Dreamlist. Please let me know if y'all enjoy the idea, and depending on community feedback I'll either go ahead in building a list, or step back from the idea entirely.

I like these ideas, but I'm especially interested in the first.

Oh, that's my bad, it's really one idea. I meant I would be compiling games not yet available on GOG that one can vote for on the Dreamlist.
