Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

MODERATORS

They should use maybe 3/4ths of the amount of flavor they do. It's overwhelming, and burns my tongue if I eat large amounts of them in one sitting.

That being said, I don't eat junk food much anymore anyways. Prices are sky high, portions are pathetic, and it's not like I wouldn't be he healthier without it.

Oh wow. Rare to see such an objectively wrong opinion

Hard disagree. I miss the extra flavor dusted versions they had for a limited time a few years ago. Now the regular stuff seems bland. But every once in a while, I am blessed with a boon of just a solid rock of flavor dust in a bag like this:

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 month ago

What the heck, I have never ever seen such a thing in all my bags. That's hilarious and awesome.

[–] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Fuck me I could die happy if I got that in a bag. I'd put it in panko and coat some tofu or chicken in it and fry it.

[–] Squirrel@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 month ago

Those extra flavor dusted Cool Ranch chips hit hard. I miss them.

[–] Machinist@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

The snack gods have blessed me three times with the holy Flavor Rock. May their light shine upon me again.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 44 points 1 month ago

You have my vote because your valid opinion is actually very unpopular. I hate it. Congratulations.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 30 points 1 month ago

You gotta be shitting me

[–] 474D@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Is mayonnaise spicy to you?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Its not spicy. It's just gross.

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

This might be the first time I'm actually in the know on a reference 🍻

They should sell just the dust. I'd eat it with a spoon.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They used to... It was with the popcorn stuff like Kernel Seasons. I don't know if they still do though. The Spicy Nacho stuff was pretty good on popcorn though.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I would use it to LIGHTLY season some popcorn. Especially cool ranch.

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

I was just thinking the other day that “man, i taste corn chip, where is my cool ranch at?”

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Honestly it's the high level of flavoring that makes them good. You aren't meant to eat a ton at once, just get one chip at a time and enjoy the strong flavor.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh, no. I would eat a party size bag in like 30 minutes....but like halfway through the bag it's kind of like a burning sensation. Not spicy. More like if you took your tounge and rubbed it really fast over a carpet, and got carpet burn on your tongue.

But if you need more fiber in your diet, dorritos is the way to clear you out the next day.

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Y'all need some broccoli.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

The enormous amount of flavoring is like the whole point

[–] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

To add to this, Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips > Nacho Cheese Doritos.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I haven't had those in forever!!! I should get some......and IMMEDIATELY put them in a much quieter bag. Have you heard those bags? It's like they're intentionally designed to annoy everyone around you just by existing. Definately not library food.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Put your chips in a bowl and live like an adult. It’s a game changer.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

eh.....then I have to wash another dish. I don't even make sandwiches. I just grab a fistfull of turkey lunch meat and stuff it in my face. Goes well with a squirt of bbq sauce.

(but yes, having at least the option would be nice)

The problem is you remember eating it as a kid. Drinking lots of Coke/Pepsi/mountain dew, hostess cakes, and all that other over flavored, ultra processed food covered with sugar and salt.

Now, as you've grown, your taste buds aren't used to the barrage and it's just too much to enjoy the nostalgia. Probably because they've steadily increased the additives to make it more appealing to an increasingly desensitized palette.

I feel the same way. I eat much healthier, feel better, and save nostalgia for movies instead of food.

I'm actually surprised this is an unpopular opinion. I guess a lot of people here are early 20s? It's easier to get back into the processed enjoyment mode then, maybe.

It’s funny that this falls under the unpopular opinion area. Specifically since the original Doritos were nowhere near this spiced and/or coated. I’m not even that old and remember as a child the white top bag. “Nacho” if I recall for my area. It was the perfect amount but instead of covering the family they went with maxing out the kids in terms of flavor.

Edit: I am with on this one. Forgot to mention that.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm sorry about that delicate constitution. Must be hard.

Try some Takis, they're a little more mellow.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I kinda understand where you're coming from, but strong disagree. Maybe it's just that I usually eat Doritos with cottage cheese which dilutes the MSG tsunami, but I love their overdone spicy "cheese" flavor.

Anyway, this seems to be truly unpopular, so you get a upvote.

[–] Plum@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

It might be regional but the new cheddar jack doritos in the silver white bag are what you described. Still tons of flavor, but dialed back a bunch. To get around the burnt tongue thing, I portioned it out in sandwich bags so I could eat them for a while without the main bag going stale. Treat yo self.

Username fits

[–] Boozilla@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Got some tortilla chips at Costco years ago that were 1. Better chips than Doritos and 2. Seasoned less vigorously. I can't remember the brand and I haven't seen them since. Kind of a white whale for me.

[–] MagnyusG@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Late July? Sounds like it.

[–] Shirasho@lemmings.world 4 points 1 month ago

Like with all chips, the seasoning isn't the problem - it is the absurd amount of salt.

[–] retrospectology@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I hate to upvote this.

[–] Cosmos7349@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] thesporkeffect@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Right, 'cause of the Doritos.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago
[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I love doritos as well, and I find that most bags are okay for seasoning, but then you get the "oh god this is the bag with ALL the seasoning" and it's just gross when it's so much. Or some chips that are like plastered and I can't stand it being so much. Most of the time though? Tear through an entire bag yeah!

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I absolutely love using doritos as like a crunchy topping for a casserole or something, but never just eat them. I like to be able to taste things.

[–] MagnyusG@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I tried the Aldis brand once. It was decent, but it was a different flavor entirely. I like the dorrito flavor.....just less of it.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean if they stopped putting as much stuff on the chips, other people would buy less of them too. That would cut into their market share. They can't have that.

Flavor seasoning.

Is that like spaghetti pasta or is it closer to crab crustaceans?
