Rules:

Don't be awful Lemmy Guidelines Still Apply.

No direct upload images This is hosted on Lemm.ee- to post images, you must use an image upload service like Imgur to post maps.

We are agents of chaos I've created this to be the alternative to the community I used to manage on the website that shalt not be named "mapporncirclejerk"

Live and let die Meme trends happen, so please don't message mods asking to take down maps that are repetitive to a bit.

Reposts Vs. Covers Not all reposts are evil- if someone posts something that has been done years ago, it serves to bring old memes to the new users. I call these meme covers. However it can be done in excess which makes it a repost and spam. Mods will determine if a post is a cover or a repost.

No impersonating mods I can't believe I had to make this rule.

No harassing mods on an appeal We can talk it out, and we will be acting in good faith when making decisions. If you disagree with a removal, you are free to message for clarification or to appeal by giving some added context.

Bans Bans will be set to a maximum of 365 days for humans, and a minimum of 365 years for bots. I believe people can change, so if you are banned for good reason, do know that it is not permanent, it is just a way to say "take time to grow and come back when you are ready".

I wonder why my country Austria has the musical label

[–] qjkxbmwvz@startrek.website 1 points 10 minutes ago

Maybe it's referring to the musical, The Sound Of Music?

Germany's stereotype of Japanese is that they raped straighted through China.

"Love Japan " not represented in France wtf? We consume the most Japan media after the Japan itself :)

France is full of weeb?

Oh boy you have no idea , we had huge access to manga and anime since before the USA and that influenced a part of our pop culture since the 80s.

[–] thebigslime@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Fascinating!

Whe host one of the biggest Japanese culture convention every year.

Especially during and just following the bubble economy in Japan, a lot of people would go to France and get completely shocked. They largely went to Paris and we're shocked that it was not romance, fantasy, and love, but regular Parisians. There is a word in japanese パリ病 (Paris sickness) to describe the disillusionment of it all.

For some reason, pretty much nobody knows that except the French, lol. I only know it because of Polandball.

Source, out of curiosity as a long-time foreign resident of Japan?

As someone who's lived in Japan roughly a decade, Finland would either be Santa or aurora based on everyone I've talked to. There are plenty of stereotypes (some of which are accurate in my mind), but this map seems a bit weird

As a person who is Swiss and has lived a while in Japan, everyone says “Heidi”. I think Heidi/the alps is the biggest stereotype of Switzerland to japanese people, not banking.

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

What's "Heidi"? I need to ask my wife about this one. Is the pronunciation like German on this word for reference?

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

It’s a swiss story about a little girl who lives and herds cows in the alpine pastures.

And it got turned into a really popular japanese kids anime.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidi,_Girl_of_the_Alps

Yeah the pronunciation is german but Japanese people tend to pronounce it Haiji ハイジ.

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 1 points 5 hours ago

Thanks for responding. I'll check it out tomorrow (and ask my wife if she's heard of it)

Edit: after clicking the link, I have definitely seen the image wiki uses several times

Is "killed jews" really a stereotype of it's true?

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

It’s just a way of deflecting the subject of Unit ~~271~~ 731.

Edit: They really should have named that something easier to remember, like “Crimes against humanity unit” or something.

Suffice to say that they scared the nazi officials that visited the facility with just how grotesque and cruel their treatment of Chinese civilians was.

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 7 points 6 hours ago

Hungary doesn’t exist

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 4 points 6 hours ago

Well, at least we've got something better than vodka lmao

As a person living in one of the displayed countries I can confirm the accuracy regarding said country in this map which may or may not be fake.
