Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.

I'm 65 and the country is essentially fucked for the remainder of my lifetime. The judiciary, federal appointments, cabinet secretaries, SCOTUS... We're screwed

[–] Redex68@lemmy.world 6 points 45 minutes ago (1 children)

Bold of you to assume it's just your liftime

[–] piecat@lemmy.world 3 points 42 minutes ago

Everyone's lifetime if we keep it up

Unfortunately, at some point you have to come to terms with the fact that you're sharing your country with a bunch of racist morons, and them plus the group who shift with the wind, don't check candidates' promises against the facts and apparently have no moral principles equals enough people to win the election.

It is fucking depressing. I feel for you all. When Britain showed it's true colours I left the country. Same problems, fortunately not as bad an outcome (although still pretty bad).

I hope the DNC learns from this. They won't, but I hope they do anyway.

At least now there is a good chance we will see some live-action adaptation of the 2024 Civil War movie

So americans. You always praise your second amendment because it will defend democracy. How about you proof it this time?

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 23 points 1 hour ago (4 children)

Prove it how? They democratically elected Trump. If they were to go against it, that would be the second amendment destroying democracy.

They've chosen Trump fair and square.

[–] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 hour ago

Electing an undemocratic candidate is not democratic. Fsscists like to be democratically elected to then destroy democracy.

Democracy dies in broad daylight, it turns out.

Everyone who voted for Trump knew exactly what they did. Everyone who didn't show up to effectively vote against him had every way of knowing exactly what they were doing as well.

No excuses. This is America. Maybe they just hate women. Maybe they simply love fascism. Doesn't matter. This is who they are.

The next years will be a fight unlike anything. And no matter how hard the better angels of American society fights, it will still be a tragedy unlike anything we can currently imagine.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of Trump voters believe they were voting for a better economy when not only is the opposite true, it is bundled with so many more negative features. These voters deserve every negative thing that is about to happen to them. "I didn't think they were going to eat my face!" Unfortunately, the rest of us are going to get caught up in this as well.

[–] 01011@monero.town 25 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (9 children)

You grossly overestimate how intelligent/informed the average American voter is. I really don't think they know what they've done, are doing or what is being done to them.

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 1 points 21 minutes ago

I'd really like to know how many people didn't hear Trump call Brad Raffensperger and try to get him to throw the election. I'm shocked anyone could listen to that and think it's OK to give him power again regardless of their position on any of the issues.

[–] iamjackflack@lemm.ee 20 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It’s beyond clear they have no idea or are 100% complicit, there is no middle ground. Our country is absolutely fucking retarded. We are doomed

As a Swede this is not the news I wanted to wake up to. Let’s just pray Trump is going to spend all these four years on the golf course as much as possible.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 1 points 5 minutes ago

Jesus Christ as a fucking American I don't know what the fuck happened...what's the point of us?

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 28 points 2 hours ago

Even if he never said another thing for 4 years, the people that would get installed would ruin everything. I fucking hate my country right now.

[–] Sweetpeaches69@lemmy.world 50 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (18 children)

As an American who voted against him to save democracy here, I can't even sleep. If it wasn't for my girlfriend and my family I would have probably killed myself tonight. Dark days ahead, of a scale I can't even imagine. The worst part is the feeling of betrayal by my countrymen. I don't belong here anymore, but I can't leave those I love.

This makes me wonder tho. In movies, the US president is often portrait as whoever is president. During the clinton and bush years, the president was a white haired older guy. Later it was sometimes portrait as either a black person or just obama himself. Before all that it was often just basically nixon. But there was never the fat idiot. Now the fat idiot is gonna be president for 8 years, is hollywood just gonna ignore that or is anyone having the balls to portray the president as a incompetent grossly overweight idiot?
