As a Swede this is not the news I wanted to wake up to. Let’s just pray Trump is going to spend all these four years on the golf course as much as possible.

As an American who voted against him to save democracy here, I can't even sleep. If it wasn't for my girlfriend and my family I would have probably killed myself tonight. Dark days ahead, of a scale I can't even imagine. The worst part is the feeling of betrayal by my countrymen. I don't belong here anymore, but I can't leave those I love.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 11 points 49 minutes ago* (last edited 46 minutes ago) (4 children)

I have a girlfriend and family and yet I'm still considering ending it all. Someone please bring me strength. My entire family is either against me or apathetic and I just can't take it anymore. I've struggled with depression all my life but between losing my job recently and seeing these election results, I think I've reached my breaking point.

No sleep will come my way tonight, either. I plan on continuing to drink and smoke until I pass out but I'm only going to regret this tomorrow once the hangover kicks in and brings me to an even lower low. I don't know what else to do, though. I'm surrounded by fucking idiots who obviously didn't realize just exactly what was at stake for the future of not only the county, but the whole god damn planet.

I know I'm screaming into the void here but like so many other of us, I need to fucking vent. Either help me or ignore this comnent; nothing matters anymore.

Don't let the world fall into the hands of bad people! Good people must find new ways to fight the bad!

[–] Sweetpeaches69@lemmy.world 4 points 11 minutes ago

Please stay around. We'll need good people for whatever comes. If you end it, nothing good comes from it. If you hang on, and help like-minded people through the storm ahead, then at least some good may come.

Your girlfriend will surely miss you. Please don't do anything rash.

[–] Ethalis@jlai.lu 1 points 5 minutes ago

Please don't do anything rash. The fight still goes on, the not-fascist part of America needs you! Love and support from France

[–] shield_gengar@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 minutes ago

All that's required for bad men to succeed is for good men to do nothing.

Be strong. The world needs you.

[–] VubDapple@lemmy.world 14 points 58 minutes ago

Don't kill yourself. Get some sleep and give it some time. You can always die later and maybe there will be an opportunity to do some good in the meantime.

[–] tweeks@feddit.nl 7 points 54 minutes ago

We need reasonable people like you in this chaos.

Please be okay. We can go on <3

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 19 minutes ago

Even if he never said another thing for 4 years, the people that would get installed would ruin everything. I fucking hate my country right now.

Democracy dies in broad daylight, it turns out.

Everyone who voted for Trump knew exactly what they did. Everyone who didn't show up to effectively vote against him had every way of knowing exactly what they were doing as well.

No excuses. This is America. Maybe they just hate women. Maybe they simply love fascism. Doesn't matter. This is who they are.

The next years will be a fight unlike anything. And no matter how hard the better angels of American society fights, it will still be a tragedy unlike anything we can currently imagine.

[–] 01011@monero.town 10 points 36 minutes ago* (last edited 22 minutes ago) (2 children)

You grossly overestimate how intelligent/informed the average American voter is. I really don't think they know what they've done, are doing or what is being done to them.

[–] iamjackflack@lemm.ee 8 points 17 minutes ago

It’s beyond clear they have no idea or are 100% complicit, there is no middle ground. Our country is absolutely fucking retarded. We are doomed

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 3 points 15 minutes ago (1 children)

This has nothing to do with intelligence, but everything to do with selfish entitlement.

[–] 01011@monero.town 3 points 8 minutes ago* (last edited 5 minutes ago)

The pandemic wasn't that long ago, that experience settled any debate to me as to how ill informed the average citizen is. Most of the people voting are actively working against their own interests. There is a minority who benefit from the bad policy, the majority inevitably suffer. That has been the state of affairs since (at least) the Reagan era.

[–] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 17 minutes ago

So americans. You always praise your second amendment because it will defend democracy. How about you proof it this time?

[–] zeroday@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 1 hour ago (4 children)

I'm so tired of being the Cassandra of my social life - I call this shit out years ahead of time and nobody believes me or takes my analysis seriously because I said that I'm a communist. Like, holy shit, yes, I am a communist - I want workers to own the entirety of society. That's the exact opposite of these fascist fucks who essentially want bosses, money and corps to control society. I'm a communist because I saw this fascism coming, I recognized the patterns and incentive structures in society, and realized communism is the best way to defeat fascism - we have to decisively win the class war. And this is a war, don't confuse it. Mark my words, now that things have gotten to this point, massive violence is inevitable soon.

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 10 points 1 hour ago

I don't think people will commit massive violence to save their rights. The majority just conforms to the regime (which many of them voted for and are comfortable with) and the minority is too weak. I think they're going to obey and suffer quietly rather than risk direct oppression. Just like in other totalitarian countries.

[–] 01011@monero.town 4 points 41 minutes ago

They are willing to kill you to maintain the status quo. If you are not willing to do the same then you have already lost.

Those that voted for independents to protest or abstained or voted red for the luls probably took just enough votes away from her to cause this. Hope it was worth it. This is gonna get bumpy.

70s, 80s and 90s = peak humanity

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 1 points 4 minutes ago

Nope but honestly what I expected.

To quote the great George Carlin

Now, there's one thing you might have noticed I don't complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain't going to do any good; you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here... like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There's a nice campaign slogan for somebody: 'The Public Sucks. F*ck Hope.

Americans will accept a convicted felon, rapist, and vocal fascist of you simply promise people lower prices on eggs by using tariffs.
