Looking at the bright side:

-no more vaccines (never liked needles anyway) -no more fluoride in the water (who likes nice teeth anyway, plus you can get fakes installed) -never need to vote for president again (think about how much time that'll save) -no jan 6th revolt in 2025 (maybe they will just for fun though, who knows) -perhaps Trump can fill the remaining seats of the supreme court and get a properly conservative suite of justices -Elon Musk will be our super-cool tech daddy

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 17 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)
  • No more environment (hate the outside anyway)
  • No more Ukraine (the weather in Kyiv sucks and I have a gluten allergy who needs grain anyway)
  • More refugees into Europe (yeah Europe is totally prepared for that and won’t cause more fascists to win European elections)
[–] sfxrlz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Yeah fascists in Europe turned out great the last time

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 2 points 32 minutes ago (1 children)

Hey, maybe we in Europe will get to be the ones making a deal with the devil (Stalin then, Xi now) to get a red flag flying in the fascist capitol.

[–] sfxrlz@lemmy.world 2 points 30 minutes ago (1 children)

Better start working for some social points. I love surveillance cameras everywhere.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 0 points 24 minutes ago

Lol we have Chinese police taking people away already. I'd also love chat control to go through. No fair that it's only the US and the Chinese who get to dragnet the world, I want locally sourced fair trade repression. Gotta love this world.

That said, China has a lot of shit going on, but a credit system is not one of them. For example, they are actively trying to tamp down social (and physical) mobility. It's a shit place right now, maybe it always was.

The only country I know that has a credit points system that decides a lot of the opportunities you get in life is the US.

The world: literally doesn't care

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 65 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

When Trump was first elected, it made me realize how stupid most of the US is. The results of this election were not surprising, I even linked to the sort of self-serving articles that preceded just before Hillary-Trump's elections to people who were doing the same in this election. At least in this election, it's sort of like Israel, they are leaving no doubt about who they support. I don't even care if Kamala gets the popular vote, most criticize the electoral college word only and refuse to consider gerrymandering as electoral fraud, leading to it occurring in greater and newer ways this election.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 20 points 3 hours ago (4 children)

Why are americans so stupid and yet manage to export so much smart stuff from tech to podcasts to scientists. Is it some sort of dystopia where 1% rules, 20% live in a bubble and 79% are just brain dead idiots?

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 25 points 2 hours ago

Why do people from Europe go and build monuments and luxury in Saudi Arabia?

Money. Same answer in the US.

The US is an oligarchy, as attested to by this Oxford study. To answer your question, mostly yes, hence places like "Silicon Valley" and institutions like the electoral college.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 28 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

1-America imports smart people from all over the world.

2-Technical smarts and don't-vote-for-fascism smarts are different.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah but basically everyone I follow from podcasters to tech developers are all non-idiots and I assume their following are also mostly non-idiots. Where are all of these idiots hiding? The contrast between US soft power export and actual average americans is colossal.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

You're looking at and following your information bubble.

This is by design.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 1 points 1 minute ago

Yeah but almost every American I meet here traveling in SEA or Europe is a perfectly reasonable person.

Dunno I just am in such disbelief that my world experience doesn't match reality at all. I even consider myself pretty well traveled with 20 years of experience traveling around the globe though admittedly I've never been to the USA yet and I fear I might not get to see Yellowstone or Big Sur ever at this point or do I even want to?

Kinda sucks to be a fan of US now ngl.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

The podcasters you follow are not the mainstream in the US. Probably the majority of mainstream podcasters targeting men, were pro Trump in one way or the other. Either by inviting guests that were pro-Trump, or inviting quacks that are telling men that the left is taking away their masculinity.

About ~~6~~ 3 million fewer votes for Trump than last election, which is good, but it doesn't matter since there are ~~18~~ 15 million fewer votes for Harris than for Biden last election! Where were those ~~18~~ 15 million people? It can't be that all of them are in the "I don't vote for genocide" camp. What happened?

It's never been clearer that not voting gives the election to the Republicans.

Edit: Updated the numbers as more votes were counted, but the point stands.

[–] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 6 points 40 minutes ago

Maybe sexism and racism are not isolated to the right wing, possibly a lot more in the centre than assumed. Maybe just enough in certain demos to affect turnout.

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 4 points 45 minutes ago

If Biden hadn't insisted on running despite his declining mental state, she wouldn't have won a primary, not very likely anyway. She is uninspiring and she carries the baggage of the struggling/non-existent middle class, housing market, 12 million border crossings etc.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 1 points 12 minutes ago* (last edited 11 minutes ago)

I don't know what the final turnout figures will be, but if it is a lower turnout, I can think of a few:

  • 2020 was the easiest year to mail in a ballot ever, and it got harder again as states reinstated various difficulties with mail in ballots.
  • So many people didn't have to go into work in 2020, they had more flexibility to vote however they needed to do it.
[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 38 points 3 hours ago

It’s very strange to me that turnout is lower, purely because when I went out to vote there was a line goin out the building, which I have never seen before in my area

Hope the price of eggs was worth sacrificing all your civil liberties America

You deserve everything you're going to fucking get. That includes the women and Latinos that voted for him. Your faces will be eaten eventually and you will get zero sympathy from me.

[–] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 6 minutes ago

I will be shocked if the cost of living comes down at a notable rate when compared to other developed countries.

Conservatives have never been better at managing the economy, yet people believe they are, for some reason ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–] Kcap@lemmy.world 15 points 2 hours ago

I heard a lot of commentary about the price of eggs tonight. I live in San Diego, America's most expensive city. I've seen at some major chains a dozen eggs in the $6 - $9 range. Most stores I've seen them around $4 or $5 bucks a dozen. I also purchased a dozen yesterday for $2.79, and that was through Doordash even. So like, I call bullshit. Americans are dumb and too lazy to shop around. The gas station closest my house is $5.80 according to Google just now, but I filled up last night about 5 miles away with cash for $3.99. So infuriating that lack of effort or stupidity is likely what drove Trump back into office.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 49 points 4 hours ago

Please don't forget that neatly half of the country realizes he's insane and is terrified. Not everyone deserves this. Tens of millions of us out there don't want this.

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 29 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

I hate this as a Canadian cause it's gonna mess with our economy. But it will also stoke more support for the current conservative dickbag running to be prime minister. Also I don't want more Americans moving here.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 18 points 3 hours ago

This is going to have a chilling effect on democracy, and an energizing effect on fascism, worldwide. The movement to try to limit climate change is now dead and buried, worldwide. There is no part of the world that is safe from the effects of this.

Trump is not going to create a better economy. We're gonna go into a recession and he's going to blame it on democrats and COVID restrictions.

He's going to increase immigration, lower wages due to cheap labor, and cause wages to go down. He said this and the retards that live in rural America think he's going to benefit them. He's going to reduce the power of Unions.

It's clown world.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 18 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It it bad that I think that's a best case scenario? Things aren't looking good.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 12 points 3 hours ago

We’re going back to child labor in factories and brood mares barefoot and pregnant. Trans and brown folks are going to have a real bad time. I’m a white dude and even I’m afraid of what’s going to happen

I am fucking gutted, I am so sad and angry and I don’t know what to do. I am overall a happy and positive person and believe in humanity but this win feels like it’s stripping me of a piece of that and I hate that! I hate that I feel so much hate right now, it’s exactly what I preach against, yet here I am. I can’t believe this is happening

[–] Digestive_Biscuit@feddit.uk 9 points 1 hour ago

That's how I felt here in the UK when I woke up to see the majority voted for Brexit. Before that I thought people can't be that dumb. Apparently they can.

[–] pepperonisalami@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 hours ago

Ikr... I don't even own a car, I walk to work, take the MRT everywhere etc. and the Americans are electing a president who says "Drill baby, drill". I'm not an American, but it will affect us all... I live in Taiwan now and I'm fucking afraid of what his presidency will do to the geopolitical balance with China.

There's no such thing as an undecided voter.

They've either decided, or decided to do something bad and don't want you to judge them.

[–] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 hours ago (4 children)

0 empathy for americans. You deserve what you get for either not voting or voting the baffoon. Even dems deserve it for stupidly changing the candidate and AGAIN acting like they already won everywhere which makes people think "oh then I dont have to vote"

[–] MySkinIsFallingOff@lemmy.world 5 points 51 minutes ago (1 children)

My desperation is not foremost about sympathy for the US, but for the consequences for international politics.
This is certainly an enormous turning point for America, but it's also a very dark day for the outlook of the future of... well basically everything.

The continuation of our species on this earth are facing problems that are more complex than can be put into a slogan or a headline, and both Trump and his voters are to dumb to understand such matters. And that's not said in hate or anger, it's just an observable, testable fact that they're literally unintelligent.

[–] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 26 minutes ago

Yeah its terrible for everyone else. Especially Ukrainians, Taiwanese and Palestinians. Though the last group I feel less empathy for now since they called for not voting either so they are as responsible as Trump supporters.

[–] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 5 points 1 hour ago

i dont think swapping biden out was a bad move. i think it could have been someone better though

[–] Aussiemandeus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Unfortunately my country loves to copy America in everything they do so we will be walking off the cliff soon too
