I love the strategy of talking down to him like he is a child, knowing full well that he is going to respond like a child.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 71 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He really went off the rails after she started talking about his crowds leaving rallies early.

[–] ef9357@lemmy.sdf.org 43 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

And his facial expressions while he wasn’t speaking? I honestly had a hard time telling if he was trying to troll her like he did Hillary or if he was constipated.

It’s like he doesn’t know what to do with his face if his mouth isn’t moving.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's a "pretend to understand and be authoritative" face. Once I had a boss who was woefully underqualified and he made that face all the time.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Yep, the classic sign of ‘I don’t know what you’re on about, I was just a yes man for years and got the job’

[–] SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 month ago

I noticed the lack of comprehension several times. I could easily pick out which individual words she said that he doesn’t know, because he has absolutely no self control.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Apparently, based on one newscast I've seen, he was told that instead of losing his temper out loud, he should make faces at her that show his anger.

So he decided to lose his temper out loud and made stupid faces the rest of the time.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

Why aren’t we talking about that more? That face was sooo weird, like is he a cartoon character now?

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 53 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He literally said he can't tell a difference between how he is now and how he was in first grade.

He actually doesn't know that adults aren't supposed to act like six year olds.

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

So according to his logic, his racism "40" years ago with the central park 5, and his behavior now is indistinguishable. Sounds about right.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 129 points 1 month ago (3 children)

She had to get that "fired" line in. She knew that would get under his skin.

[–] dditty@lemm.ee 72 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not only that, but it does meaningfully reframe losing an election into an easily digestible soundbyte for uninformed voters

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

which soundbite? lol. I can think of at least 3

[–] Wrench@lemmy.world 53 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

You could tell she had those zingers locked and loaded and was just waiting for the right time to drop each of them.

You could also see her when she decided to chamber the round. Where her stern disapproval face had brief flickers of delight as she decided she was going to use one when she had her next chance to speak.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 42 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Her prep team was incredible. Overall her campaign is performing incredibly.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 month ago

We pull this off as a nation? Could be reeeeal nice for the readers among us.

[–] GoodEye8@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think her campaign is what an actual campaign is supposed to look like, it just looks incredible when you compare it to the dumpster fire that is Trumps campaign.

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I still want more substance from her campaign, not because it won't work this way, but because this way is working so well. She has the opportunity to make some progress while still tripping him into pools of his own filth.

[–] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 34 points 1 month ago

Unsurprising that a prosecutor knows how to get people to act like an ass in front of a jury of their peers.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 52 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Did she say this in the debate?

Don't be silly

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Worth watching the whole thing, honestly.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

I tried but I just can't listen to that man like that.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago (3 children)

My favorite moment was her introducing herself so formally.

It was also a slick way to correct him on how her name is said.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I wanted her to bait him into a handshake then withdraw out of disrespect but alas we can't have her pushing the bully back too hard while courting the low-info swing voter, I guess. So this was a pretty great alternative.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago

Well a certain decorum is befitting to the position they’re in, so I’m glad to see one candidate that understands that.

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 9 points 1 month ago

I mean he doesn't know how to pronounce her name. I think she figured this would be a good time to do it lol.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I missed this. I think I came in late. Does anyone have a clip of that?

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

As per my previous email...

She straight up called him an idiot to a national audience and if I die too young I hope it's with that memory in my head.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 month ago

She straight up called him an idiot

We've been doing it for decades. She did it in language he gets. It showed more than it ever has before.

[–] profdc9@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago (3 children)

It's a great line, but it's also kind of tragic that these kind of soundbites are how we decide who is commander and chief of the armed forces.

[–] JuBe@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

There’s a lot more to deciding the president than this… this was just cathartic.

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Nixon lost the 1960 election to Kennedy in part due to how he looked during the first televised debate.

while I agree with you and would love to have policy be the main driver of people's decisions, elections are unfortunately more about likability than policy for most voters.

Holy shit, is that why his two dumb ass sons always have that 'I have a raging clue' face going on?

[–] Alenalda@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (4 children)

why does it always look like hes wearing someone else's face

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 month ago

I figure it's the spray-tan which doesn't go on right next to the eyes.

[–] lengau@midwest.social 4 points 1 month ago

The way his skinsuit slides around on him I wonder if he's a very small Slitheen.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He had only one of three expressions anytime she was talking, and it was fucking creepy all on its own.

  • I want to fuck the cameraman (seen in OP)
  • I want the cameraman to fear me greatly (such as seen in his famous mugshot)
  • Punchable, fake, practiced smile (as seen in some common Trump memes)
[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You also forgot.

  • Demented muppet

Unless you are classifying that under one of the others.

Because even after all these years and having all that staff he still doesn't know how to apply nake up right.

[–] bitwolf@lemmy.one 12 points 1 month ago

I was cracking up at the choice use of "fired" in this comebsck

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Had there been a more savage moment in a debate? Has anyone been shot at one? I am afraid to Google it

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 16 points 1 month ago

I found the following clip the most savage as she basically tells him that works leaders across the world think he's a tool and that someone with his incapability of self reflection makes him unfit for office:

https://youtu.be/ecGjnR3aNvA?t=8m06s

His response makes it worse as he said that Orban said he was the best leader ever. Which kind of makes the point

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago

“Please proceed, Governor” was a good one.
