The Israeli military killed nearly a dozen people Sunday in its latest bombing of a school-turned-shelter in the Gaza Strip, an attack that came amid limited pauses aimed at allowing relief workers to vaccinate Palestinian children against reemergent polio.

Israel’s strike on the Safad school in Gaza City killed at least 11 people, including a woman and a girl, a spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defense agency told Agence France-Presse.

The Israeli military claimed it was targeting a “Hamas command center” inside the school, which — like other Gaza schools that remain standing — was being used as a shelter for people displaced by Israel’s nearly 11-month assault.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said in a statement Sunday that “Israeli aircraft and tanks continue to bomb the central Gaza Strip, the area where the polio vaccination campaign has begun.”

“Along with the ongoing shelling in various parts of the strip, these Israeli military attacks have coincided with the peak of families’ movement with their children towards the designated vaccination centers,” the group said. “Some of these attacks have even targeted locations near the vaccination centers, endangering the progress of the vaccination process that is required to stop the poliovirus from spreading among Palestinian children in the besieged enclave.”

I don’t understand how Israel’s excuses always boil down to Hamas was hiding there.

Israel’s population does compulsory military service, does that make them all IDF and fair game as a military target? Of course not. So why is “Hamas = Everywhere” a valid excuse when “IDF = Everywhere” isn’t.

The same lie has worked for decades. Why bother making up a new one?

Wtf are you talking about. Israeli civilians have always been a military target to Hamas. Do you not remember October 7th already?

I’m using a hyperbolic comparison to point out that Israel’s justification for killing Palestinian civilians is wrong. October 7th doesn’t give the IDF carte blanche to genocide a whole civilian population.

I’m pointing out that Israel often claims that Palestinian civilians are connected to / harbouring / being used as shields for Hamas so it’s basically fair game to kill them (they are enemy combatants).

Given that stance, shouldn’t the opposite also be true because Israel has compulsory military service. Because of this, all of their civilians are technically connected to the IDF so are they not also enemy combatants?

But then show me a single graph where the civilian casualties in Israel are more than the civilian casualties on the Palestinian side? Because I am sure you will have a really hard time finding such.

Or let's simplify things, let's only count kids under the age of 14.

This makes no sense. Why would Hamas, that has spent all this effort digging a whole network of underground tunnels use an overground school as a command center?

You give their lies far more thought than they do.
