I'm all for it. Love the Riddick franchise, so fun.

I don't care what people say. I like these movies. They're not good, but they're fun

I think Pitch Black is a fantastic movie, period. They accomplish so much world building through “show don’t tell,” it’s visually great despite being dark most of the time, and it makes great use of suspense at all stages.

THANK YOU!

I always say a fun "bad" movie is often better than a high production value meh movie.

Give me comic book ridiculous Hellboy, not some serious brooding slop.

I want the movie to understand exactly what it is, and lean into it.

Give me Spaceballs. Give me Godzilla. I have seen so many "artsy" films. sometimes I just want to watch a guy punch another guy with a teacup so hard he dies, and scare three other dudes with a can opener.

Sometimes I just want to see a couple normal looking people absolutely wreck a gang of thugs who underestimated their opponent.

And hope if they make sequels, the sequels don't get too full of themselves.

Chronicles of Riddick, Waterworld, Fifth Element. I love those cheesy, weird-ass movies

[–] Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 44 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They should make another game while they're at it. Escape From Butcher Bay was heaps of fun back in the day.

And the graphics for the time were spectacular.

Riddick: Family

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 27 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Encountering videos of him in real-life has had a sort of Steven Seagal-esque effect on my ability to enjoy his movies.

[–] MaXimus421@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

This. Guy is weird af in real life. I'm willing to ignore it all for 2 hours of another Riddick film is as good as the previous ones but I'm no fan of this guy anymore after some of the videos I've seen of his behavior off set.

Another actor that Hollywood just turned into a freak.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

And Ron Perlman doesn't really have horns. It's okay.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

How do you explain this?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I have a very brief Ron Perlman story: I went into my favorite North Hollywood diner one day and as I was walking in, I turned and saw Ron Perlman. He looked at me, gave me a brief look that communicated, "yes, you recognize me. Not now." in a way that only Ron Perlman could do. I wasn't going to talk to him anyway, so I was fine with that. But that guy is damn good at giving you that sort of "don't bother me right now" look and you don't feel like he's being a dick about it.

[–] MaXimus421@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sounds on brand for Ron, tbh. I wouldn't look at him poorly over that, personally.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Oh I don't. I thought I made that clear, sorry if I didn't.

Chronicles is under-rated. It's Macbeth in space with Riddick in the Macduff role, but I guess people just didn't want a movie about Macduff. ;)

[–] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

It’s honestly my favorite of the bunch. The Pitch Black /Riddick monster plot style dying one by one has never appealed to me in any genere. I loved the mystic sci-fi space world building that was going in Chronicles. Does it do it better than a movie like Dune? No, but this also came out a very long time ago.

[–] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I had no idea he was making another one of these. He really likes making movies.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

They've all been passion projects AFAIK.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Making movies takes family

[–] crawancon@lemm.ee 17 points 2 months ago

I'm game. I enjoyed the first 3 quite a bit. they did alien worlds pretty good I second 2, although the whole "bonded with space dog" from the 3rd one had me flinching from the cringe.

but still a solid B+ overall.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

Finally, they're making a Riddick movie for furries.

[–] yessikg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 months ago

I hope they ignore the plot of the last one and just wrap up the plot from the other movies

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I have been waiting for this news since the last movie. 😀

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Think it’ll suck as much as the last two?

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Chronicles was fun, the last one was meh because it was too similar to Pitch Black but without the interesting characters.

[–] misericordiae@literature.cafe 11 points 2 months ago

100% agree; I was so bummed Riddick was just inferior Pitch Black. The animated one, Dark Fury, was fun, though, iirc.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Hope hes somewhat debulked
