The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced a pause in the movement of its employees in the Gaza Strip “until further notice” after one of its vehicles was hit by gunfire just metres from an Israeli-controlled checkpoint.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric blamed Israel for the attack, telling reporters in New York that the “clearly marked” humanitarian vehicle was “struck 10 times” by Israeli gunfire, including with bullets targeting front windows.

Five of the bullets were on the driver’s side and some on the windscreen.

Dujarric said the convoy’s movements had been coordinated with the Israeli military and it had clearance to approach.

Israel attacking innocents and commiting warcrimes?

Must be a day that ends in Y.

Now they know why the Israeli military coordinated with them to plan the path. So they could set up the ambush.

the "clearly marked" humanitarian vehicle

They're white. Except for the massive black markings. I don't think it can get much more obvious without bringing beacons and a sky writing display in.

UN prepares the extra angry pen for this letter

The Israeli forces made sure to avoid hitting marked UN panels. WFP forgot to draw text on their windows.

I have no idea how they could possiblytry to pass this off as even remotely acceptable, but I’m also quite sure they’ll try.

UN? I clearly read "HAMAS" on the sides of that car

[–] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 71 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

*again.

Israeli forces fire on UN food agency's team in Gaza again.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 12 points 2 weeks ago

Same thing I was gonna add..
It made me happy for a second to think we all agree and then kinda depressed that we all agree that Israel keeps attacking the volunteers just trying to help victims of their war.

Is anyone even surprised anymore?

As are those who support them.

Let's never forget the enablers of the Zionist Genocide.

They say Hamas are terrorists because they attack innocent civilians and that may be true, but it seems that by the same metric, aren't the IDF also terrorists for attacking innocent civilians in clearly marked vehicles ?

Verily i say more, If we go by how much civilian infrastructure and casualties have been committed, one side is clearly acting more strongly within the definition of terrorist than the other.

Worry not: Biden will quickly pass an executive order for an emergency shipment from the US to Israel of bullets to replace the ones those brave IDF soldiers spent defending themselves from that evil UN Humanitarian vehicle.

Wouldn't want them to be low on bullets if, God forbid, they're faced with an even more dangerous assailant such as, for example, a Palestinian 5 year old child.

Seems like we need a peacekeeping force stationed in Israel. Headed by one of the EU members preferably, since we cant trust the US to be impartial.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (13 children)

Germany is still shipping weapons to Israel.

Faced with a modern version of Nazism, some EU members can't be trusted to not support them even when they're in the middle of executing their very own version of the Holocaust, probably because that view of human beings as inherently superior or inferior depending on their etnicity (aka ubermenshen and untermenschen) is alive, well and as strong as century ago.

The others (including my own country) just have different levels of bullshit when it comes the the Israeli Nazism and Genocide.

The only two EU nations that can be trusted on this are the Republic Of Ireland and Spain.

Guys you just don't understand... How is Israel supposed to fight Hamas when they're hiding in cans of vegetables!? It's not Israels fault that Hamas uses sandwiches to hide their operations in!

[–] ashar@infosec.pub 32 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

The only news media I saw today to name Israel as the perpetrators of the shooting.

Fuck me it's early. Read forces as a verb, not a noun.

Pretty fucked that Palestinians have to suffer because NGOs feel (and are) unsafe.

[–] Barbarian@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I did the same. Anything can be a garden path sentence if your tired enough.

What happens when you systematically deprive millions of people of food again? Either Israel doesn't know the answer to this question or it's a blatant GENOCIDAL ACT. There is literally no other option.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Israel is a rogue state at this point, but everyone in power keeps pretending they're not because wE nEeD sTaBiLiTy In ThE rEgIoN or some such utter fucking nonsense.

Israel continues to amaze me about how awful they can be.

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure the IGF and government aren't upset about the pause at all

If you find it BAD to SHOOT FOOD AID WORKERS then you HATE JEWS because JEWS MURDER FOOD AID WORKERS!

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Reported for the whole "JEWS MURDER FOOD AID WORKERS", and you really should specify Israelis or the IDF. "JEWS..." anything, really, is a bad look.

But I get where you're coming from:

Not once:

Terrorists, war crime-rs, and genociders are what makes up the Israeli military.

It's just unfortunate that military service is compulsatory for most Israelis.

[–] homura1650@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

It was not compulsory for Ben Gvir, who was excused from compulsory service because the IDF at the tine thought he was too extreme. He has since been convicted of terrorism, and currently serves as Israel's minister of defense.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

war crime-rs

I think the term is "criminals".
