I got VERY worried until I saw the "LODGE" sign

Really? I was expecting him to assault the hooded figures regardless.

Can you explain it to non-americans like me?

any kind of hooded mysterious secret society or cult-like costume resembles the KKK costume to us

That part I vaguely understood. Why did seeing "LODGE" make you realise it's not the case?

The US had/has a bunch of fraternal societies. Most of them weren't racist, at least any more than anyone was in those times. They were mostly social/drinking clubs with a few fun or silly rituals thrown in. Groups like the Shriners and Freemasons fall under this category. The places they gathered are referred to as Lodges.

Those dates are a lot more recent than I was expecting.

I'm mostly referring to the part when they were founded. I am not familiar with the stuff involving the supreme court. Though it does seem sus.

I'm sure there are other "lodges" but I generally associate it with the Moose Lodge. Which was indeed racist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyal_Order_of_Moose#Racial_discrimination

I assume it's a mason lodge, which AFAIK is not racist.

I am both disappointed and unsurprised
