I love how she only needs one choppin hand to command the situation. He can't help the teeth grinding, he can help being salty. MRS. EGLANTINIA TRUE, Judo Grandmaster in 3 countries: justified.

He can't grind his teeth if she knocks them all out. (taps forehead)

Is really interesting to me that they’re shown in the same bed, because I remember learning that couples used to be shown in separate beds on TV because it was considered inappropriate; couples were shown with separate beds up until the 60s. Was that just a neurosis for actual people rather than drawings, or was it actually kind of edgy to draw them in the same bed, I wonder?

That was a result of the Hayes Code which was voluntary self-censorship guidelines by the Motion Picture Association. Hayes Code was enforced 1934-1968, so this comic predates it. Its actually pretty wild watching films from the late 20s and early 30s that are from before Hayes; they’re surprisingly racy and boundary-pushing at times.

Some of the details in these are kind of interesting. I assume the pitcher and plate/bowl it's on were for washing up in the morning. Just fun to see the items put in the backgrounds that were normal for the time and not so much now.

Forget what we're eating, we should ask Mr. True how that knuckle sandwich he just ate tastes.
